Honest mechanics

So after a few bad experiences with garages. like overcharging and doing shoddy work I'm looking for a good honest local garage.

And i was thinking, wouldn't it be great if we all put a name down of a good local garage. That way the good ones would get used and we'd not end up getting ripped off or having bikes busted because some ***** decided that washers are not really needed!!

I live in Ponte And need some one to put my new back tyre on any one know of a good place?

supertedlover and sprocker you live pretty close to me, do you know anywhere good?

Another thought (two in one day im on a roll:rotfl) maybe we could shame the **** places too

Griff at Tamworth

Make the trip to Griff, you won't be disappointed.

Just travelled to Griffs place from Kent, around 150 mile each way and it was well worth it, the ride home was a blast. LOL

Griff's :

Well priced work
Does an excellent job
Knows exactly how to do what you want
Goes above and way beyond customer service in terms of what you would get from your local dealer

Lastly, do not miss the suspension workshop, well worth a few hours of your time. Listen for Griffs favourite words, 'oscillation' and 'black art' only kidding Griff but you gotta admit you love using the 'O' word! LOL

Only one downside to Griff and I think you all know what that is -

Ponte as in Pontefract? if so try these..

If you can get a tyre and loose wheel take them to Sprint Motorcycles in Wakefield, they don't sell bikes but just about everything else, it's a family run business and they've always done a good job for me.

Also, speak to Jason at Moto Strada in Shipley, not the cheapest but again my experience has always been that he's very good and really understands all things italian, especially V twins.

Bike Tyres Leeds just up the road in Scholes :thumbup I just had one fitted the other day and have used him before...top bloke and good prices :thumbup

Bike tyres Leeds are v good they've also got a new low price on Metzeler Sporttecs.
For servicing i just used ASL at York - very clued up on Aprilia and very reasonable.
Moto Strada at Shipley good as Windy says but its top money too.
Mark58 uses a guy who comes to the house can't remember the name - sounds cheap but aparently you have to factor in how much of your time (and the hourly rate you put on that) cos the guy wants to talk to you all day = way too expensive in my book.

Mechanics

Paul Haigh, mobile mechanic based in Wakefield..Used him for 16 years, very reasonable and knows his stuff..

speak to alan at AML he is recommended mate ..... hes a friend of mine that tries really hard to do the job right .....that important to me, and im sure yourself jhust tell him griff sent ya and you want a cup of tea while your there!!

I have his number if any one wants it....

Paul has looked after my bikes for years and since the T was out of waranty he's been doing that as well. Trick is to leave a key and claer off before he gets to the house...:biggrin oh and tell the wife not to start a conversation with him.....:rant

Yep..Look at the latest bill on my post..He charged £88 labour but was here 6 hours!! Nice bloke as stated..Used him 16 years..Very helpful if you have a problem..Deaf wife..(must be by now)

I used him too years ago when he replaced a full exhaust system on my VFR750, he had to take the bike away to do at his garage as it was a virtual engine out job. I can't remember the exact price but it was very reasonable and he does know his way around bikes.

He must be pretty good if he's still going. He doesn't charge the earth either and obviously just loves his job :thumbup

tried paul unfortunately he's maxed out with work and couldn't do it will be leeds tyres or Ams for me. can't seem to find a number for the leeds guys the web page is basic

if anyone has a number for either or both could you pm me it please :biggrin

No worries - just wasnt sure we were recomending same guy - deffo Alan ex of Infinity also was at Alan Mountain (main Honda dealer for years) and a Ducati dealership I think.
