High Beam is Poor

Hi guys, I have to say I'm not impressed with the high beam on my gen 2, Low beam has a great spread of light with good intensity, the high beam is focussed at the correct height but lacks the intensity of the low beam, the bike has OSRAM bulbs fitted to all 4 lights, what's your impression of your gen 2's main beam lights ? I've read that others have used Phillips Crystal vision bulbs to good effect so I may try a pair in the high beam to see if that improves things. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same problem and if you resolved it, cheers Daz.

Thanks Snowman, is there a much difference from low and high beam other than the focus heights ? on mine there is a dramatic loss of light when I go to high beam.

I presume the Gen2 is designed the same way as most car and bike headlights. In which case dipped beam and main beam are exactly the same wattage, but the former is 'dipped' down to prevent dazzling oncoming cards and the later should be set parallel to the road, or slightly below parallel.

Easy to check. Just park opposite a wall (e.g. house) at approx 10 to 30 feet, in the dark, and see how your beam pattern falls. Sounds like your main beam must be pointing too high, or maybe the bulb isn't fitted into the holder correctly. The only other possibility is the reflector is damaged, but you should be able to see that!

Lowered mine a lot as blinding others and burning the back of drivers necks in front, this means dip is lower too but high beam is ok for the roads I know, but have to ease on barely known roads. I think yours might be losing beam as they are too high?

How can this be? I havent actually checked mine out yet, and i have only had the bike for less than a week.

But doesn't the high beam come on at the same time as low beam? ie, 4 h11 bulbs on at the same time when high beam is activated?

Don't think so???? Never looked but usually dip goes out when full beam comes on ????

While I was there did oil/filter change too, had a good blast as its first time out this yr, not cold 11c new lid too Hjc Arpha 10 knuckle , got it for £188 before xmas lot quieter than my age k4 sv, all happy!

Checked mine top 2 are dip then they go out when full beam is on bottom 2 !

Hmm yeah. I checked mine today and mine are the same. That's a little pour, no wonder they arent too good.

VFR ones were top with 4 Halogens on at the same time. I wonder why aprilia didn't do that... battery draw? or heat in the headlamps or something?
