hi to everyone as im a newbie. first off i would like to say i love my aprlia rsv mille, i have wanted one for years and just managed to save up enough to get a 2000 rsv mille 2 weeks ago.

but here come the query, when the clutch is depressed i rumbling kind of noise comes from the left engine area but when compressed e.g to put the bike in gear the noise stops. does the clutch need replacing or does it just need bleeding.

thanks in advance for any help it is appreciated.

I have a 2000 model which does exactly the same thing, only coming up to 10k miles. Dont think it needs bleeding mate, as mine still did it coming straight back from the dealer after having its slave cyl replaced under warranty (obviously bled through completely) will be interesting to find out if tis owt wrong with it.

The clutch baskets/plates etc... do rattle around quite a bit if your engine idle RPM is set a little low.

Make sure your idle is set at around 1250 RPM, if that doesn't cure it then pop a note back on this thread and we'll see what else we can do for you. :thumbup

When you say the rumbling comes from the left side of the engine, do you mean right side when you're sat on the bike?

well the rpm diag says its -1 and does jerk a bit at low revs, ill try some injector cleaner and adjusting the idle throttle thingy lol. herd its a pain to get bang on 0. but the noise defitnently comes from bottom left side and dissapears when clutch lever is compressed, obviously can only hear diffrence when stationary, as when riding the beast of a 4 stroke v-twin kicks a bautifull noise that drowns everything else out. cant see it being sprag clucth as start up's fine with no noises. wont get round to it till friday some time when it stops raining as weather man say it gonna be. seems to ride fine taken it on some 50 od mile journeys through peak districk, planning on going to scarborough this weekend if weather permits and bike is fine. Anyways thanks for advice guys

funny thing is i had what i thought a massive wiring problem only last week, the ignition starter button would not work, asked for advice all repies were soloniod or starter really spent nearly 100 spondoolies on two starter realays didnt work, had bike in bits checking wiring ect. eventually got fed up bridged solonoid with two pieces of 100 amp wire and 50 amp switch only to find it was the fuse that had blew in the data tool alarm (totally found by coinsidence) hopefully this will be a small problem as well (touch wood)

Dont worry m8, my bikes rattles like crazy when in neutral and engaged. It has been doing so for 30K miles :D

if your gonna mess with the TPS wind the fast idle fully out first and check if it says diag 0 (this should be checked with the fast idle fully out or it gives a false reading) mine says diag 0 fully out diag 1 with the idle set. Hope this helps mate and welcome to the site!

Cheers

Dave

P.S everyone if i am wrong dont shoot me!!

Apart from the fast idle lever you should also turn the small round idle adjustment know (right side of the bike) out in that case.

But generally there is no need to reset the TPS. even if you set it to 0, turning the idle adjustment know will make it read 1....

I have a 1999 mille as a track bike, same with mine, quiet on startup, then rumbles when clutch has been used, better with clutch in, ok in normal use.

I took the clutch cover off and there's some end float on the clutch shaft, obviously pulling clutch in pulls the shaft a little and stops the movement. I'm gonna check to see if can shim it.

Ok on trackdays so far

If I remember correct the shaft/rod is stuck in a seal on the clutch slave cylinder. This would prevent a rattling sound IMHO.
