Hi, new old guy worried about his licence!

Hello, got my bike about a month ago, having been riding for a good few years, mostly Triumphs, the odd BMW and one Suzuki years ago. Started on a Trident after passing bike test. Those were the days of a quick ride round the block and they gave you a licence!

Now, at a ripe old age, I bought this - its an '03 and had just over 9000mls on the clock, - oh boy!!!

As you can see from the next pic (the garage shot) there are two here - the black is my sons - he bought his about a month before I got mine. I saw his and JUST WANTED ONE OF MY OWN.

Why didn't I discover these bikes sooner - actually probably best cos I might not have a licence any more - goes like stink, handles and is very difficult to not ride quickly. Absolutely love it! Self control is a real problem, and I don't seem to have that skill very well developed.

Now questions:

1) What must I do to keep it running sweet and lovely, any special tricks, must do's and don't do's???

2) HAS ANYONE GOT A '99 pillion seat they want to sell at reasonable cost?? My lad has the '99 bike and he can't take his lady on it - I have a pillion seat which is different and doesn't fit, and if she who is always obeyed wants to ride, then she will!!! Would appreciate any help on this.

Good to be part of the RSVZONE - read loads of great advice and help already, - thanks.

Welcome mate, wealth of knowledge on here, you need to get rid of the standard can, get a renegade (others brands are available) air box and lower the gearing, keep an eye on your battery (always keep it tip top) and your clutch fluid level (slave cylinder seals tend to go, fit a MPL Billet slave to stop), enjoy the ride mate and the zone , and get your lad on here too

welcome dude, ditto to the above post, loadsa mods you can do and yes they are a liscence shredder.
for mods possible, have a look in my garage!
cheers Ck

Hi folks - thanks for the welcomes and the advice - always appreciated. Whenever I get back from a ride I always seem to have to peer out from behind the curtains, and the first time the door bell goes after I return I always seem to jump? Is this something to do with riding a twin rather than a triple or four????

Go careful out there.

Welcome fella, glad you are njoying your new ride. Firstly keep the bike hooked up to an Optimate battery conditioner at all times when not in use. This is important to keep the battery in tip top condition. I'm sure you've read the stories about sprag clutches failing so this is a worthwhile investment. Also fitting a Yamaha starter relay is a good idea as the standard Aprilia part can fail. Yamaha Part number 4KD 81940-00 about £29 from any Yamaha dealer. Secondly change your gearing to 16/44 or 15/42 from the standard 17/42 if it already hasn't had this done. You'll be amazed how much better the bike is to ride. Then ditch that standard end can for a nice Akrapoivic, Arrow or Leo Vince SBK can. Also check the bike has been derestricted see here with the wire cut to the ecu, airbox restrictor removed and the exhaust restrictor cone removed.

http://www.apriliaforum.com/techtips/1000/derestrict.htm

Read up on all the other bits and pieces like the correct way to check the oil level, upgrading the battery to a YTX14-BS, cleaning the disc bobbins etc and you should have many miles happy riding.

Welcome mate.

Ignore my comments on your other thread with those piccies. Didn't realise the black RSV was your lads.

I really like your RSV in that red, however you do realise the blue ones are sooooo much faster!!!

If I see any early pillion seats on my trawls round Fleabay I'll give you a nudge.

Spending far too much time here!!!

Thanks for all your replies - already given me loads of ideas and things to try, how come blue goes faster than red, surely this can't be right. I know this cos I can hardly hang on to my bars if I twist that round bit on the right hand side right round lots when I'm going along.

Thanks for your welcome, all.

Maybe it's not about the colour - it's not how fast u can go, but how fast u can stop! Whatever colour the bike the fine, points and ban end up the same!

Getting mirror extensions keeps plod at bay. Go careful guys.

Aye welcome to this online nut-house

Had my mille nearly 4 weeks now and , ahem been progressive in my riding as i've got used to her:doug. I'm particularly keen on the wing mirrors which fold themselves in all by themselves when the speedo goes above .....:eatcorn

Do like the red ones so you get some :drool:drool

Ignore some of these chaps on the black ones, they're nigh on like Volvo drivers towing caravans sometimes :nana:devious

Welcome to the zone ol mate..& to the world of Aprilia RSVz..the more you ride it the stronger the love for these machines. Keep safe bud & enjoy that Ape!

but Sprocker, black holes swallow light so they must be more powerful!
Welcome MP - how 'bout some more pics of your son's tasty black one so we can check out the scheme?
