Check for crash damage. The gear and brake lever hit the frame if it has been dropped. Likewise check the top of the front fairing beside the mirrors; these touch the ground and grind away as well. Last point would be the front fairing bracket. If the plastic cowl above the clocks doesn't sit straight then the fairing bracket is bent. Another sign of an off.
Listen for a clatter when starting from the left side, if you hear one the sprag has gone.
Check the head bearings; they are a wheely machine.
Apart from that for 8000 miles is should be fine so long as there is a service history.
