hi, my name is pete and i dont have a tuono! as my user name suggests, i am restoring a phil read replica and a honda britain and i currently ride an old firestorm. i'm looking at getting a v4 either the end of this year or next, as i need to finish one of the hondas first. i have a test ride at aprilia swindon next month so looking forward to that. i'll just be lurking for the time being if thats ok.

Welcome aboard, that's a bloody long way to go for a test ride.
It'll be worth it though :thumbup

we are off on a few days holiday and passing swindon so it made sense. also, there is a big TK Maxx for my lovely mrs to wander around

I know you're from Carmarthen, but trust me a big TK Maxx is not enough reason to visit Swindon :thumbup

Welcome aboard, your projects sound interesting, any pics?

anyway, enough of my piles of junk. i need some input as to which V4 to go for. the all singing, all dancing 2017-on models seem to get rave reviews but how you guys rate the pre-17 versions? do i really need all the gizmos?

I haven't ridden one :( but my pal has an 18 plate rr and loves it, I think its kind of difficult to justify the extra for the factory unless you intend beasting it around a track.
Sorry I don't have personal experience to draw from

i'm not a track nutter but i do like the fast roads we have around here. i dont need a factory as i doubt if i would be able to tell the difference between sachs and ohlins. reliabilty is a big one for me though.

I went for the 2018 rr model, put some of the money saved into an Akra end can, decat, and link pipe to remove the flapper valve and had the race map installed.

So far, 3k plus miles I've had no problems at all, its all day comfy as well, I rode from north Germany to NE England in one go, 800 plus miles and felt like I could have gone further.

Nice projects mucker,,,,,,,yer must have a lot of time on yer hands. :thumbup

2 questions to ask your self.
1, do you take pillions?
Yes- buy the RR
NO- buy the Factory
Are you buying New?
Yes- buy the factory, you deserve it!
NO- buy the factory makes more sense to get the best if your buying used.

Hope I've helped clear it up for you.

That's a lot of work you have there , best get it done before the Tuono because it will take up all your time riding it . I have the 17 Factory not ridden the RR the dealers only seem to have the factory as a demo . have two mates with 17 Factoy's one had a 15 the other 16 both think the 17 is much better or that because they spent the money !!! the guy with 16 took it for a service and was loaned the 17 demo and went back and bought it .
