Hi From sunny West Yorks (well actually it’s pi$$ing down which is why I’m on the net rather than doing something more productive) anyway I’m seriously thinking about buying an RSV. I currently own a VTR 1000F (probably a not the most popular bike on this particular forum) but once you deal with it’s clear short comings (suspension / brakes) it’s a very capable bike and has been pretty much faultless in the 5 yrs I’ve owned it but despite its sterling service the time has come for a change, for something a little more exotic and the RSV seems the natural choice.
I’ve been doing some reading on the various forums trying to learn a bit about the RSV, common faults, possible upgrades etc basically to help me make a more informed choice when it comes to party with some cash and buying one.

It goes without saying when buying a bike (or car) you should take all the normal precautions to avoid buying a rewritten off, stolen or financed bike but when it comes to a specific marque each has its own faults and foibles this is where forums like this are invaluable, searching the posts of knowledgeable, enthusiasts goes a long way in helping look at the right areas when viewing a potential bike. It seems to me the RSV has a basically robust engine, good chassis and despite being Italian a very good overall build quality, I have however found a few instances of problems with the ‘sprag’ clutch, instruments and electrics. Buying a bike with a good, comprehensive history is obviously beneficial but I guess that’s true of any bike.

See this is just a post to say hello and that hopefully very soon I’ll be the owner of a Italian super bike :thumbup

BTW links to pages/threads I would find useful would be most welcome.

you may see this newbie post repeated on other Aprillia / RSV forums, this is because I’m not familiar with the pros and cons of the various forums so I’ll register for all those that look relevant and probably end up flitting between those that offer the most pertinent information.

Lots of info on here af1 and aprilia.me

There a list of how to's on here under guides for the brown connector etc

Most of the sprag issues comes from people trying to start on a low battery and not using the correct starting procedure

Never touch the throttle...
