hi everyone new 03 tuono owner

:banghead hi everyone new to tuono and aprilia hope it is a good experience only got bike sunday and really pleased until this morning fired up bike and it ran for a few seconds and died and will not restart put in some petrol as quite low but to no avail battery now flat any quick ideas to try probably me cant try again till sunday anyway .so sorry not a great intro from me but hi again and I am sure its nothing major
 
I don't think so as spun over after cutting out for quite a few attempts until battery died
 
Hi and welcome, sorry to hear the bike won't start but if you read on the forum it's not unusual, fully charge the battery first, read the forum and go from there
 
Hi Lest139,

Welcome. If battery is weak engine can turn over but spark weak. Can cause it to fire, run briefly and stall, as already indicated above.

Def. fully charge battery and try again. Worth checking condition of bat too. These big twins ideally need an upgraded battery. Lots on here about that, plus keep on a battery conditioner if you doing use the bike daily as dash uses power even when ignition off.

Apart from that, you have probably just bought yourself a fantastic machine that will make you smile like the Cheshire cat! ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum. You will save yourself a load of heartache if you have a good look thru' the forum and gen up on the accumulated experience and "how to" info.
With your current issue -
1. Fully charge the battery (a half charged battery will not cut it)
2. Never ever continue to crank the starter if the bike does not start in 3 or 4 attempts as the bike will flood. If you then continue to try to start the bike, you run the risk of damaging the sprag clutch and the battery.

Read the forum and enjoy, I also have an 03 Tuono, and have learnt some good stuff from the forum members.

ok thanks for all your input and have had a good read of forum interesting stuff my first problem to overcome is the starter solenoid tried to jump start bike but solenoid only clicked and on inspection the main terminal battery side has been hot and started to melt any tips on a good upgrade battery that fits also and why does a modern engine like this need a cold start ,think I have a lot to learn
 
hi lest139 , welcome to the forum . to help you with the starting probs check out options for upgrading the battery .higher the cca rating the better .
big ole vtwins need a good spin up to save knackering the sprag clutch too .
 
Hi mucker, cold start is only a fast idle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,saves yer holding the revs up fir a wee while.
 
hi bike now a goer new starter solenoid 150 amp and charged battery and away she went thanks for any advice given .my biggest problem is keeping bike battery charged as it is kept in an garage away from my house and it has no power supply might have to try a solar panel charger any ideas
 
You could remove the battery and take it home if the bike is being laid up for a while. You would need to reset clock mph from kph etc though
 
If the bike is laid up for winter, then take the battery off and keep it in the house on an optimate, the previous owner of my bike had no garage power and used a solar panel and said that as long as he used the bike every couple of weeks it was fine.

went for first proper blast the other day fantastic what can I say definite right decision to sell 1050 speed triple they are good but this has got heart and can feel the tyre digging in with every stroke love it now to properly clean it up . previous owner commuted and toured on it hope not being used on a daily basis does not affect it . previously owned twins were ducati paso and Honda firestorm, Honda vastly underated by some but this is brilliant used to have a zx6 track bike might have to give a thrash around snetterton and compare it against others I have taken round .all starting issues now seem sorted as I now seem to have the knack of starting procedure.
