hi all
Just picked up this 2004 RSVR for £2200 with only 4800 miles on the clock (although I've been told that the clock resets itself so who knows!) :biggrin

The only issue with the bike that I can see so far is the speedo.
When doing low speeds it reads whatever figures it feels like for some reason.

it flicks from 60 to 120 to 50 to 30 to 99 to 135 to 78 etc etc etc you catch my drift.

Is this a common issue? It also does this when the bike is at a standstill.
Here's some photos of her.

It has Danmoto pipes on it at the moment with Yoshimura stickers on top. They are completely insane!

4800 surely not... the new brake discs want to say it is more like 24800 :) anyway the sahdboard has never been the strong side of these machines... check your voltage regulator, speedo sensor (back wheel) cable and connectors on the dash

Looks like you got a sweet deal there, mate :thumbup

As for the speedo issue, i've heard the wheel sensor can play up on these so i'd start there.
Also, if titanium bolts have been fitted to the rear disc this could cause erratic readings (but I don't think it would cause it at standstill)

The sensor is fitted near the rear wheel, just above the rear caliper.
If repairing or replacing the sensor (Or associated wiring ) doesn't work, the clocks themselves could be at fault.

Let us know how you get on, good luck.

Hi guys.
The Aprilia spent the evening on the Optimate charger and lo and behold with plenty of life in the battery the speedo is now reading correctly.
Talk about relieved! Thanks all :doug

Maybe I'm missing something but I fail to see how a flat to fully charged battery would affect the speedo reading/fluctuations :dunno

Re. the mileage, you can check on the VOSA website the mileages listed at previous MOT's, assuming you have the V5.

And maybe it's not so wise to advertise the bike on here for £3095 when you've told everyone you've just bought it for £2200 :roll

The flat battery was the cause of the speedo fluctuations as it is no longer fluctuating and the battery is now fully charged. They are the only changes I have made and the problem has disappeared so 2+2=4 in this situation :thumbup

As for the price? I don't think that's being greedy. I had the opportunity to buy it very cheaply as the previous owner is a friend of mine who had fallen on some financial difficulty and would either lose the bike or take my cash for it. I didn't force anyone to sell it to me at that price so was just fortunate.
I think £3095 ovno is a fair price considering the condition :dunno

and here is what came back from the VOSA website for the MOT mileage reading

In your ad you say you have some previous mot's as well, what is the milage on them?

And I have to agree with Paul, not the best way to go about selling a bike.

Previous MOT's are all below the stated 4800 current miles. It has been off the road for a few years between 03 and now as the MOT history on the VOSA site has a few MOT gaps over the years where it must have either been SORN'ed or in a dealership somewhere.

It's also HPI clear

hey guys would you help a bloke sell his bike with that name ? GPZRX lol could come back and haunt you some day :biggrin
