Alright guys...............:thumbup

OK..... i have a pai of r&g's to put on the Mille as there were rather nasty looking carbon fibre effect things on before!!!

My problem is that when i am screwing the allen headed bolts in they don't seem to be catching on anything inside he handle bar itself???? Can anyon shed some light on what i sould see when i look in the bar itself?? IGoing by the diagram on Aprilia Genuine Parts website.......

http://www.apriliagenuineparts.co.uk/component-rsv-1000-2000-handlebar-1137.php

Inside the handlebar are parts 4-5-6......am i right in thinking that the allen headed screw attaches to part 4 ????? I can see part number 5 inside the bar but it is simply a rubber spacer and as such the screw won't attach to that!!!!

Has anyone got pictures of a dismantled handle bar at all?? Also, can i simply replace the internals whilst on the bike or is it a removal job???!!!

Pissing me of now! ! ! ! !
Cheers guys.............:thumbup

Had this problem with mine, someone had fitted cheap and nasty bar ends. These normally have a flanged nut and rubber insert that expands as you tighten the nut. All very well when new but a sod if you have to remove them and the nut either drops off, or has rusted onto the bolt and is spinning round :rant I ended up drilling the head off the allen bolt to allow the bar end to be removed. I then tapped the remains of the bolt into the rubber. I then hoiked the rubber out with a pair of screwdrivers and then fished out the remains of the bolt and nut.

On the OEM barends you will have to firmly hold the barends weight while unscrewing (counterclockwise) the allen bolt. Without holding down the barend itself the allen bolt will not come loose. Same when tightening, you should hold the barend.

Just taken mine off too see what the fitment was with a view of changing them, came off easy with allen-key ,behind was a spanner headed insert that the bolt screwed into and my weight was recessed to cover this. Not sure if this is original fitment on an 03 model or not.

Cheers guys, i seem to have whats required but cant figureout why it's not "securing" to anything inside, just seems to trn and turn but not catch anything??????

Dont you have to turn with an alen key and then pull them out with some pliers?

I've got the old crappy ones out bud, just trying to fit the r&g's but they aint securing to anything bud???? Feck knows why????

P.S...................barend sent this morning dude..................:thumbup

You need to hold the bar ends to stop them turning as you wind the screw in Andi. It goes into an internally threaded bar with two little locating pins on which should sit in corresponding slots in the R&Gs.
One tip - Loctite the screws or you'll like as not lose a bar end.

Cheers Simon mate, i'll actually take a couple of pics tonight as something doesn't seem right???? The threaded bar you're referring to seems to be missing!!! As for the locating pins :dunno:dunno:dunno

Think i may have to replace the whole internals:eek::angry

Will post pics tonight for y'all to have a looksy at and figure out what th f*cks happening!!!!:thumbup

tip: wrap barend a few times with duct tape before you grip with pliers to avoid damage

You missing some pieces. 4, 9 and 10 look in THIS diagram

Just checked buddy and do have numbers 9 + 10 but need the number 4!!! Will order 2 but can you tell me if i can replace them while in situe?? or would the handle bars need removed first???

Ta...............:thumbup

Just have a look at the workshop manual, it shows the procedure how to install and remove.

OK guys.............i have checked and it seems i do have everything required.......BUT i need a favour!! Can anyone with R&G barends please check the length of the allen headed screw you have in them??? I think my problem is that the screw may not be long enough to catch the anti vibration weight shaft!!!

Thanks.
