Hi, as the title suggests I am looking for help, advice, spares, money, support, contacts, in fact everything for a race team.

WHY? - I have been accepted to take part in the No Budget Cup, on my 2001 RSVR1000, at Assen on 15 August 2012. The ground breaking bit is that all the riders on the race team are paralysed. Myself (Winter Paralympian), Russell Docker (Triple Winter Paralympian) and Bret Crossley (ex Manx GP/Road Racer) will be making up the Revenge Racing Team.

We have the bike, it is already in good condition, but we will look to make it run sweeter, faster, handle better and stop on a penny. We are looking to find out the best way of doing this. Anyone that would like to help us to get the best out of the bike, be involved in the race preparation (as I will be riding the bike at track days to get used to it, having ridden a GSXR750K7 for the past year), please get in touch with me here. We will get a website up and running, so that all involved will be advertised etc. I have contacted a bike magazine who is interested in running with the story (free advertising) and there is a local film maker starting to put feelers out on a possible documentary.

Even if it's words of support, we'd greatly appreciate that. Hope all are well and I'll be keeping you updated of the journey.

Kind regards

Talan

Hey Talan

Ive just had a butchers at your site and I never knew such an organisation existed- I take my hat off to you, very humbling, well done!
I'll be keeping an eye on your progress best of luck mate!

hi Talan,

I am in South Africa and have done about 35 000 kilometers on a 2000 RSV-R. Towards the end of 2012 I also intend to do a 24h on an RSV so I would like to follow your preparation and result. Here are some pointers that I am using for my preparation.

Gearing : 16 / 42 Very suitable for endurance racing / Fuel consumption ( standard is 17 / 42 )

Hard wearing Sprockets and top quality Chain.

Tyres : Dunlop Slicks ( Endurance compound ) 115 / Dunlop slick up front ( if I can find some ) , It is actually a 250 two stroke race rear tyre. I've used it and it works well and lasts well. I found a write up of an endurance race team using the 115 for a front as well as it performed better than the normal 120/ 190 Combo.

Rear 190//60/17

Going to need 1 x extra set of rims at least

Dunlop D211 Sportmax Endurance Compound for damp / cold conditions ( not budgeting for full-wets )

Top Quality Tubeless Valves

Tyre warmers ( For the moment decided against using them for various reasons )

Endurance Compound Disc Pads

Suspension Setup aimed at maximizing tire life / performance

For a 2001 bike - Replace wheel bearings front and rear / remove swing-arm and inspect bushes / replace / re-grease as necessary.
Inspect front fork seals in advance

New Chain / Sprockets / chain lube at every tire change

Fresh High Quality Oil ( NO Synthetic Oil )

Fueling : Cut ' Blue-wire ' on ECU with ' R ' chip to make use of 2nd performance fuel map. ( I don't want to risk having to sort a ' confused aftermarket ' fueling setup during a 24h )

Engine : Standard Low mileage ( just to prove a point ) / Lower temp thermostat for South-African conditions. )

Standard Slipper will do. ( would be good to have a stand-by )

Inspect Wiring Loom / Piping meticulously for ' chafing ' and possible cause for failure

Wire-lock engine sump plug and all relevant bolts. ( Compulsory for racing )

Fast Re-Fuel system / modification on tank to accept nozzle / Special fuel under consideration

Denso Iridium Plugs

Quick Oil top-up arrangement

Quick Shifter - Mainly to counter driver fatigue ( standard RSV has a hard clutch action / Mod advisable )

I am considering a Tuono ' Style ' racer with a more ' relaxed ' seating position. This can go along way to combating driver fatigue. ( Also because the track is not a very high speed one in my case ) There are some good examples on this site. Else it is standard or ' high-rise ' screen.

Crash bobbins ( hope we won't need em )

Headlight Setup / Make sure that Tire profile / Suspension setup does not adversely affect headlight efficiency.

Spare Helmet Visor / For each rider.

A complete standby bike to ' cannibalise ' in event throwing a bike down the tar and needing a break lever / gear lever / in a hurry. Much less hassle than to purchase these extra parts and not needing them.

I intend fitting a ' fuel flow meter ' just for testing and do at least 2 track day events at the same track to get data on Fuel Consumption / Tire wear. Tire and Fuel management is our cornerstone in the strategy on the day as we will be competing with much newer and faster equipment. Make no mistake the RSV is a very capable Endurance Racer.

The guys on RSV Zone will surely follow your preparation and result eagerly. I wish you, Russell and Bret the best of luck.

GO GET SOME !

Hi Talan, ive just been reading the Riders Testimonials on Your Site & have to say its very inspirational mate. I cant imagine the feeling the Riders must have getting back on a Bike, fantastic. Maximum Respect to You & the other organisers of this life changing organisation.

I wish You & the Team the very best of Luck at Assen on the 15th of August, & look forward to hearing how Your big Race goes.....

@Corsa_RSVR - many thanks for the info and support, will be going through everything to make sure we get the best out of the bike (and the riders). I will make sure there are lots of spares incase of an incident, but will keep fingers crossed that we all remain the right way up.

Cheers

Talan
