HELP.

Firstly the spec. Std except derestricted (cone in std silencer removed, wire snipped , bung removed) plus 57mm throttle bodies with std airbox and k & n.

Now i started using her today having been off the road for bits and pieces over winter - no engine work though - and she wont rev beyond 7 or 7.5 thousand revs. Does not feel like a miss fire to me as its not got that harsh edge a missfire tends to have (although it might be different with twin plugs). Feels more like fuel starvation. Its not a power problem as it wont rev in any gear (inc first). It runs really well at low revs (wheelies off the throttle etc) but then just runs out of puff at higher revs.

Have changed plugs.... no difference. Voltage good plus new battery (and solenoid....surprise!)

Was running fine before xmas, i think, but as I had not had it that long before I took it off the road and the weather was rubbish I just may have not noticed or being reving it that far!

Have done a search on here but cant find anything quite the same.
Any ideas!??

Any suggestions or better still solutions would be appreciated!!

I could well be that the fuel filter inside the tank is clogged up. I had exactly the same problem on my TL1000. Try bypassing it and go for a quick ride if you're brave.

Not a terrible job to do if you take your time.

Good luck! (I'm off to try and get mine to start!)
Mike.

OK.......erm how do you bypass it then...if its in the tank. Sorry if im asking a silly question!!!

Not a silly question, cos it's a bit of a ballache!

You can see it on page 33 of the RSV Mille parts list in the file vault

You'd have to....

Remove the tank
Flip it upside down (and hope the fuel cap is sealed well)
Unscrew the fuel pump from the bottom, slide that out (careful of the o-ring)
Remove the clips holding the fuel filter on the fuel line and take the fuel filter out
...then hope the fuel line (7) from the pump is long enough to be routed directly to where the piece of fuel line (14) connects into the base plate that the pump is attached to. Or attach the two lines together somehow. You may need to find a longer hose though, I've not seen the inside of the tank yet.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for that. Might just get a filter and change it anyway. Cheers Mate!

Its not that the rev limiter has come on at the standard 6.5k and just needs increasing if it is running ok at low revs

I think you'd be doing the right thing. For the sake of a tenner, if you're going to the trouble of taking it off, you might as well do the job properly and if it doesn't fix it, at least you know you've ruled it out. I'm 99% certain that's what it'll be though)

My TL was a '98 and sludge poured out of the filter when I removed it. The poor bloke only sold it me cos he thought it was underpowered. Cost me about a fiver to fix it :biggrin :biggrin :biggrin

Mike

PS: Just got mine started. Time to go shopping for a bike cover, an optimate and a bigger battery!!

To Mick Oliver.
Thanks for the post but the rev limit is NOT adjustable on our bikes!. If you mean the change up light...its just that...a light, and has no affect on the rev limit of the engine.

Does anyone know where I can get a fuel filter (and an o ring to be safe) somewhere on line or on here, delivered to me for a sensible price. The genuine ones seem to be selling for between 22 and 35 pound online. Must be able to do better than that!!!
Model is 2001 RSV Mille "R"

Thanks for that but the Ducati one is even more expensive! You guys on her must Know where to get value for money pattern parts mail order. Where do you go? All my other bikes I used Wemoto....very helpful but they dont do many aprilia parts.

Thanks in advance.

Otherwise does anyone know the inlet / outlet size or the filter so I can try and find an alternative. Cheers.

Hello again!
The parts catalogue says (about the fuel hose) 7,5x14,5 so I would guess that means 7.5mm internal and 14.5mm external diameter.

Assuming the above is correct, you'll need a sealed metal canister type, rated for the high pressure that's going through the fuel system. Probably with 8mm diameter connectors on the end.

I've seen chrome plated ones but I'd recommend against that, you don't want it peeling off and gunking things up again.

Hope you can get it sorted soon mate.
