Help needed... New Pilot Power 2ct rubbing the chain

Hi Guy's,

Just put a new Pilot Power 2ct on the back of the bike, only just realised like a complete :jack ive gone and ordered a 190/55 instead of the 190/50 like it said in the manual.

Problem is, it's rubbing the chain ever so slightly.Looks like i'm going to have to change it.

Question for you guys is.... will i have clearance on the chain if i go for the 50 profile instead of the 55. Took a worn out conti.. sport attack 190 off it and didn't have a problem, although i can't remember what profile it was.

What d'you think ? :confused

It happens on some bikes and i've still yet to find an answer why this happens. Some bikes will accept a 190 some won't. All i can put it down to is some manufacturer's tyres are wider than others even though the width and profile are stated as being the same. My 2002 R won't accept a 190 without catching the chain but my previous bike did :dunno.

If in any doubt fit a 180/55 as they were standard on R models anyhow

hi taff what year is the bike on ?

he's got a 2002 r, i just checked his profile, to see if he was someone i spoke to this morning that had just got a new rsv, but it's not him, as the bloke i was chatting to had a 2001.

thats 5 rsv's round here, so come on taff, where you from dude:doug

Sorry guys, had to pop out...

Cheers LEGS praps i'll look at swapping to a 180.

I used to work with the fella who put the tyres on for me, he's a cracking bloke and very knowledgeable... complete bike freak like the rest of us :biggrin. Now fits bike tyres for a living...His own mobile business..(MG Tyres )

He seems to think that i could possibly get round this by looking at the wheel alignment or possibly spacing the rear sprocket slightly, but not so much as to put the chain out of line.
Will have a little play around on the weekend and see if i can get some clearance, if not i'll have to swap it for the 180. :uhoh

And its nice to know there are a few other sheep shaggers on here as well as me...:biggrin :thumbup :thumbup....
I'm from Newport fellas.

Cheers for the replys fellas, :thumbup

Just been out in the garage having a think and having just fitted new chain and sprockets it suddenly dawned on me that i might have fitted the front sprocket back to front. What a :jack .Its a renthal 16t and i've fitted it with the stamp markings facing out.Got a feeling they should face inwards.

Will have another look after work tomorrow, might be my problem....

Any of you guys confirm which way round the front sprocket should go.....

I fitted a new 16t sprocket on monday to my 2001 rsv and the large shoulder with the stamp on it goes in towards in the bike . spin it round mate

Cheers fellas,

Think the sprocket is my problem,.... were off to the coast today so will try and have a look in the morning...fingers crossed :biggrin :thumbup

Flipped the sprocket around last night, :doug job done.

Cheers for your comments guys...:thumbup :biggrin
