I'm new to Italian v-twins - recently bought a RSV 1000R which had done only 8400miles - bike was going fine just made a few tweeks to the clutch and was really enjoying my bike when the following happened - symptoms are as follows:
the bike won't rev past 3k - when you do - it stutters like there is either a full blockage or a wire loose on the battery -( can only do 40 to 43 mph) - or the rev limiter is set really low (but its not)
I've charged the battery, checked for loose connections on it - also the oil indicator is showing ( like there is no oil pressure) but i know that the bike has oil.

Should i check if the coils are loose?...PLEASR HELP!!!!!!!! what do i need to check or look at to solve this as i love my bike and just want enjoy riding it

another thing - the wearning triangle came on...then it went off and the bike was fine for a while but when i stopped and came back was riding again...the issue started again... its like there is a loose connection somewhere...could it be the side-stand switch? but with a warnign tri-angle and oil pressure indicator??

from reading through a whole number of posts, i forgot to mention that there is Oil in the bike but it goes into limp mode - need to chek the Oil pressure sensor or change it
Can someone tell me where to find the Oil pressure sensor?

take off the right ride panel ... its at the front low down ... with 1 wire coming from it .... sounds like its that

Defo oil pressure switch mate I had the same problem. There are plenty of threads relating to this as well. There are a few little niggles with these bikes but once you have sorted them you will be grinning like a cheshire cat.

I had a very similar problem with my 04 factory, first problem was the red warning triangle came on while riding and the bike wouldn't rev past 3000 revs and was stuttering and shuddering got it home turned it off restarted it and it was ok! The bike was fine for a week then it failed to start with red warning triangle lit sidestand light on and rev limiter lit! The problem turned out to be corrosion in the white connector which is part of the immobiliser wiring behind the left hand faring at the front, the bike has been fine for several weeks now since the connector was cleaned! The red warning triangle means there is a problem on the CAN line somewhere! Apparently corrosion affecting this particular white connector is a common problem!

Also check the fast idle control valve under the right side of the airbox...mine stuck slightly open and the bike would just die for no reason...it was getting way too much air...a quick spray with silicone and away it went....benefit of silicone is that heat doesn't effect it.

thanks guys...i will check everything again tomorrow .... i also found that by lowering and then increasing the Rev limit on the main dials.. corrected the problem for a short time, the bike would rev freely but the oil light and red triangle stayed lit and sometimes they didn't show... but also after a while the red tri-angle lit up again...and the Oil indicator is still showing...

Anyhow... thanks again - i was a little worried this morning cause i thought i'd damaged the motor, you know how it is when you just got your dream bike and things go wrong - i was thinking worse case senarios or even having to send my bike to an Aprilia dealer and then having to fork out big cash to fix the problem... thankfully its not...i will change the switch and check the rest.... deeply indebted

I also had the same problem. In my case it was the wire to oilpressure sensor got damaged when I was putting the fairing on. It took a while for me to figure it out. So also check if the wire to the sensor is ok ;)

The clocks are prone to moisture related false warning signs...usually just before the clocks die altogether like mine did last month....left with just the neutral . fuel lights and the rev limiter....everything else is just dead or unreadable.

Prove the oil pressure by getting the loan of a proper gauge from a mechanic or somewhere.

I called my local Aprilia dealer... they didn't have a gauge to try out and they wanted me to bring the bike in to check it, obviously needing to make money, i told them why brig it in when i can fix the problem myself -unless they offered to check my bike for free (highly unlikely)

i checked the wiring to the oil pressure guage, seems fine and i cleaned and checked the white connectors under the left side faring, the wire to the Oil pressure gauage seemed a bit loose - so i tightened it - so now, everything seems to be working ok - WD40'd where necessary. We'll see how this goes.

Was thinking that Aprilia should issue a document of potential issues to check relating to RSV1000R ownership but in hindsight that would take money out their pockets

WD40 is ok but eventually dries up....use ACF50...a tiny squirt last ages...i got the entire winter from 1 can on 4 bikes....really works.
