help me choose please

well i've sold my monster and now need to decide on which RSV-R to get. budget is up to £5k

it looks like i can get a new shape (i like this :) ) 2004/5 RSV-R factory, with low miles (under 10 000) for around £4.5-£5k.

or i can get a late 2008 or early 2009 RSV-R (also < 10 000 miles), sometimes with arkas, for around the same price.

which to choose? i'm leaning towards the younger bikes. for a start, i don't think i'd motice or miss not having the lighter wheels and ohlins shock. on the upside, i get a bike that is only 2-3 years old and, possibly, arkas - that's got to be a winning combination.

but the lure of owning a 'factory' is very tempting. but, more often than not, they are on standard cans. also, even with low miles, i'm thinking that on a 5-6 yr old bike, other things wear out.would the shocks or forks need any work?

now i'm really quite torn. i would value any thoughts on this please.

many thanks

Newer bike every time.

Later bikes had the ohlins forks and radial brakes so all your not getting over the factory is an ohlins shock and some carbon.

+ post 06 bikes have more of the bugs ironed out.

How about an Edwards replica? Not mine lol, but you get the Akras and lots of other goodies. I had the same dilemma as you last year and that's the option I went for. Needless to say I'm happy with my decision.
Good luck in what ever you choose

my thinking exactly - thank you.

i was also wondering if the average rider would be able to feel any difference with day-to-day riding between the base and the factory models. or is it more about *knowing* that you have a bike with the tricker bits on if you go for a factory?

i'm only talking about road riding though, as i am sure the factory bits come into their own on the track.

:D - tempting.but i *really* like the all white version (08/09) - ideally with arkas :)

Go for the newer bike m8 ive got a 2005 1000r and take it on the track and the suspention does me fine the now even tho im 14.5 stones plus when i get a bit faster i can always put progressive springs and thicker oil in the forks and all for £160 this also includes the rear spring so you can alter the rrrrr's to make the susses as good as the ohlins on the factory which lets face it aren't the top of the line ohlins numbers anyhooo and it all comes down to how you ride and how good you are when things get bendy go for it m8 you'll love the bike and with less gremlins than my bike you'll be happy for a few years and when things do start to go wrong you won't give a **** cos you'll be smitten.....

They ride the same really. You could jump off a factory and onto an R and not noice much difference. The only perceptable thing i found was the lighter factory wheels made it turn a little easier but it's splitting hairs.

Plus the 2006 bike has a biger valve motor so will have a little more pep over an 04.

Cheers guys - newer it is then. I was thinking the same and was sure that the standard bike will be more than good enough for me. Will try and get as close to 08/09 as i can-as i plan on keeping it for many years to come. It may mean a bit of a wait, but i'll do my best. Wish me luck in my search :). I will post up pics of the new beast as soon as i get her :)

thank you for the heads-up. i'm not overly keen on the gold frame - but the bike is quite close to me, so i will go and take a look on the weekend. it does look like a pretty good deal :)
