Hi everyone, im Scott and i live in Warrington.

Im currently on the look out for a new bike and ive seen a tuono that ive really taken a liking too. The only thing is im worried about paying over the odds for one but im not sure what theyre worth.

This is the bike im looking at; Image

Its on a 56 plate, but i belive this is the 2002-2005 model? Its a Factory so it has all the nice wheels/suspension/carbon etc. It has 22,000 miles on it also, which does seem alot compared to other advertised tuonos, but the condition of the bike is still great. Ive been to look at it and its in great condition and it will get a free full service and check over. The MOT is till march '14 and it doesnt seem to have tax. The place does seem to have an MOT testing facility so im thinking i could get a free MOT thrown in.

Here is a link to the add its self; Advert (its on the top row, 2nd one in). It is also on ebay; Here.

A friend of my Dad has owned one of the newer shaped tuonos, and said it was a great bike, but for the earlier model im looking at, the price should be nearer to £3000 rather than the £4500 theyre after. I cant find a single Tuono Factory anywhere near the 3k range though.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Looks like you have done some homework and don't want to make that decision yourself.

Have you ridden one ?

Can you afford it ?

Go, on, you know you want to.

You only ever regret the things you never did?

Yeh i did some looking around. Ive never ridden one but i know its the style of bike i want. I can afford to pay it, i just dont want to be paying too much. I suppose as i said if i cant find one lower priced myself then it must be right.

Im just a bit worried and dont trust my own judgement having overpaid on a few vehicles in the past.

If you truly enjoy it, who gives a rat's *** over whether you paid a bit too much for it or not? If I worried about that, the only vehicle (2 or 4 wheel) would be my current truck and that's only because I won it in a contest! Go for it, son, you'll never regret it.

£3k would get you a Gen1 R,but you would be lucky to get a Factory for that money.£4500 seems about right to me,...and hey, mebbe they will take an offer.

Have a look in the for sale section. 54 plate gen 1 for 2395 ono
But yes 4500 is well over priced.
The OP is looking at a Factory,...not an R.Those Gen1's had a lot of carbon fubre,OZ's,Ohlins,etc.£4500 aint too bad for a dealer.

Yeh, the price seemed fine to me after alot of looking around. Couldnt find a factory from a dealer for a better price anywhere.

Either way, i went and bought it yesterday. Picking it up monday hopefully, maybe 2nd of Jan if they cant get it done in time. Cant wait.

For the price, they are giving it a full service, 12months MOT, 6 months tax and a new battery.

Appreciate that KB, but keeping his options open, and the diiference in price he could add Ohlins etc after and may save some dosh?

£4,000 would be a steal!!!! £4,500 is fine. They don't sell on too well though so make sure you want to keep it before you buy. Some people worry about reliability (unfounded) mine has been fine, utterly reliable for over a year of ownership (03 Gen 1)

I think that when your buying a bike you have to go with your heart and sod the money, basically if you like it buy it. You can quibble about how much you spend and worry as much as you like but in the end when you turn that throttle open on the open roads the last thing you think of is "did I pay too much for it?" Just get the dealer to throw in 6-12 months warranty and tell him you'll have the cash on his desk. Your not buying a new one so the depreciation has already hit, like Frank says they sometimes dont sell well and I think a lot of that is down to stories of reliability, which can be true, however look on the positive side your buying an iconic motorcycle from Italy, so what you pay for in style has to be traded off in Italian manufacturing. But I can tell you this if the Tuono was in a line of Blades and R1's I know which one I would be looking at.

Treat yourself and Merry Xmas to all.

By the way I hate this ***** weather!

Good to know! I usually keep my bikes for a long time.

Basically what my Dad ended up saying to me, so i just had to go for it.

Should be picking it up today, just waiting on a phone call. Not the nicest weather though.

Welcome ek, it wiz obviously a good enough price fir yer, hence yer bought it.

Good luck wae it, 'am sure yer'll enjoy it. :thumbup

You'll love it!

I had never rode a twin before and found it massively different but stick with and and reap the rewards, it truely is a great bike.
Mine let me down the other week and it's turned out to he a ****** old battery, nothing major!

So my 2004 has done 3 trackdays at Donington with me last season and is still going strong.

Trackday it!!!!

Scott,

There is no doubt that the Factory is better spec'd than the R--so it follows that it should cost more-it certainly did when new.

I think that you have a great bike there and the price is ok in my mind-i bought my second Gen 1 Tuono R for £3100 earlier this year (i thought i got a cheap deal too) so i would say at the price you stated it is ok

As for mileage, one of he guys on here has done over 70k on his and it really does still look to be in great shape so don't be worrying there--the motor is a Rotax and they are known for their robustness and longevity

Whatever any one woudl say-get out and ride it you will luv it to bits

Good advice R.

Apart fae the nose cone they are stunning lookin bikes imo (not as good as the gen2 though) but they're designed and made to be ridden.

Personally I don't see much point in buying a machine and treating it like an ornament only to be looked at.

There are very few that have been members on this forum that haven't loved riding their tuono and those of them that have changed machine have only done it because of their own body parts condition.

Jist get oot and ride the fukker. :thumbup

It's a factory so as KB said, it's worth the money, if you look at the mileage against the age it's not really that much.
My Gen 1 (2003) had more miles on it than that one and it ran sweet as, Looked after, they will do big miles.
That looks a sweet bike, go for it and enjoy the ride.
