Hello all. I'm new to the site, but having just traded in a CB1000R for a new Tuono Factory 09 i thought id join up and say Hello. I used to have a Troy Corser rep RSV Mille a few years ago and i always regretted selling it, and ive been really disappointed with the CB1000R so ive come back to Aprillia.

The Factory is lovely, but i have a question for any experts before i pick it up. Is there anything i need to look out for, or protect on it, before i start riding? Is there anything in hindsight you wish you'd done that may help me out looking after mine?

For example on the Honda the frame coating wore away due to a bad design where the riders boots rubbed a certain part of it. It could have been protected with some clear 3m Helicopter tape. Its been a very common problem, but noone bothered to mention it on the CB1000R Forum until it was too late and had rubbed through! Is there anything like this on the Tuono?

Are there any common warranty issues i should know about concerning the Tuono Factory, from experience?

Great site and thanks in advance for any advice.

the clocks mist up and the back brake is worse than useless. apart from that its all good

Cheers guys. Ive read the thread about the clocks. Is the rear brake rubbish on the Factory? I thought being brembo it would be sound. Not that ill use it much anyway.

Hello and welcome.

The clocks misting i think is better to repair yourself as most of the times the dealers replace and then they just go again. I have done mine and second attempt so far is ok.

The bikes well the Tuono R that i have is very lumpy low down, i have fitted the 15T front sprocket and its still not great but tomorrow i am getting the MAP2 loaded onto it so hopefully this will improve.

Great bike lovely to ride and easily cover lots of miles enjoy.

Hi Trev and welcome. Had my black 'T' nearly a year now and still loving it! Came close to buying CB1000r myself but although thought bike was good, didn't seeem to have any soul like the 'T'! Such as..... crap turning circle, piss poor mileage, frightening running costs, crap rear brake, misting clocks, etc. Did I tell you I love this thing! Germany next month, route dictated by petrol stations!
Fit crash bungs - if/when you drop it will save you loads of money/heart ache!
You'll love the 'T' - ENJOY!

my factory had a rear brake that wouldnt work at all. i've had it a year and countless attempts at bleeding it didnt work. i adjusted the push rod on the master cylinder and it will now work but there isnt any feel at all. i think a change of pads is next to an after market compound.

I've finally got my rear brake so it's not spongy, but it still isn't very strong. I bled it according to the Aprilia service bulletin on the subject and adjusted the rod per that same bulletin. This made the most difference. Still, slamming the rear brake on at speed is about as effective as sticking your foot down and dragging it. My clocks misted up the first week I had it but they cleared themselves. Since then, I always cover the clocks with a plastic bag whenever I wash it and I haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for your replies so far fellas. I had a 08 Speed Triple which suffered the misting clocks problem along with about 10 warranty claims, hence why i traded it for the cb1000r. It must be a naked thing.

With the Tuono i'm hoping for the best of both the CB (reliability) and Speed Triple(character)

Fingers crossed! I pick it up on Wednesday.

Exactly what I do now and have had no problem with the misting up :thumbup

G'day and welcome Trevallion;
I see youv'e bought a 09 Factory, I have a 07 Factory. The only mod needed is to raise the forks. As mine was pushing the front end through corners. Nothing too alarming but going wide and excessive tyre wear results in the sides have now worn out too earlyand the centre of the tyre fine:crazy.A set of paddock stands to aid cleaning and servicing at home, crash bungs, headlight guards, radiator /oil cooler guards (beowulf) and better breathing exhaust cans along with Map2 are some of the 1st mods I am fitting to mine.:thumbup Some people moan about lack of rear brake,:dunno I have not found the rear brake a problem ( at least it doesn't lock the wheel ). Misting clocks, YES :crazy So be aware of the problem and cover or dodge heavy rainfall when parked. Otherwise the Tuono is well worth the $$. Enjoy the ride, mine always leaves a huge grin on my face :cheers

G'day and welcome Trevallion

The previous posts have pretty much covered the little niggles of our beautiful Tuonos.

Considering you're buying an exotic Italian masterpiece, there's not too much to moan about. I certainly have no "I wish I'd done that" issues. I simply love my bike.

Regarding the rear brake: mine will still lock-up the rear wheel after 6000km. I hang a weight off the pedal overnight every so often, and hey presto: no bleeding required!

Just ride and enjoy. Then try and get the silly grin off your face, I dare ya!

BTW, some pics of your new toy are always welcome

Dave

Cheers Guys, it goes without saying some R&Gs, headlight protectors and a tail tidy will be on immediately. Akra's and map2 when i have the funds. Here's a pic of it in the shop anyway (speedaway).
