Hi All

I will be the temporary user of a 2001 RSV-R for a while, but have a few issues. I'm hoping I can sort them and return the bike in good working order. It's a very nice bike to ride, but not without it's issues.

I'm a bit of an Italian bike fan, already owning a M600 Monster and F3 675.

Welcome along

What are the issues????

At the moment there are a few.
  1. The bike isn't starting. When it's on the battery, it doesn't crank, as if the battery is flat, with a bit of a jump, it cranks 3-5 times and then dies. The earth strap is a little warm. So far I'm leaning towards a knackered battery (although it is only weeks old) and poor earth.
  2. The clutch sticks when the bike gets hot. After about 15 min of running, the clutch refuse to disengage.
  3. The rear brake just doesn't function. Not that I use it. But it's been bled, is solid, but there is not stopping power. The bike has rearsets and has had the master cylinder moved.
  4. The pipe melts boots.
  5. The bike runs pretty hot and I am a bit worried about it in traffic.

So far that is it, but until I get it started and begin using it, I won't ferret out any more.

1st stage is to get it running and set up properly.

Any advice and tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Okey dokey
New battery time ,upgrade to a ytx14 or what ever with more CCA rating, change the solenoid to 150amp item, check all earths..do not try on a low battery your Sprag starter clutch will break...if you can afford it contact johnboy on rsvr.net for uprated starting cables .
Clutch, search out the jet40 mod, make sure the free play at the lever is et correctly and bleed bleed bleed,do not overfill with fluid..some say max mark is too much,if budget allows fit aftermarket slave cylinder
What model rearsets?..take the caliper off hang as high as you can and bleed bleed bleed ,since fitting my aprilia performance rearsets with the m/c moved I have a killer rear brake
Boot melts on pipe..is it high level or shotgun?..... Buy a heat sheild from ebay that clamps to pipe or smaller feet!
How hot is hot .....? Think my fans cut in approx 85-92 degrees..check fan relay or fan switch in thermostat on engine
.
Yeah we have had all the same problems but as a die hard italian fan you'll know this as character :)

Thanks for the advice redratbike.

I'm going to see what this weekend brings as far as battery goes.

Clutch, thanks I'll have a look at all the settings etc. I'm not totally sure what has been done to the bike before, so a thorough look will be needed.
I'm pretty sure the rearsets are Aprillia performance, but I'll try hanging the caliper up high, I had to do that with my MV.
I think it's a small shotgun pipe, not to my tastes, but I have ordered some heat wrap, so hopefully that will help.

The same weekend will bring some work on the other bikes too, so Italian fun all round.

Orpington, not too far from me! I'm in Sutton.

Not far at all

Read here some people put up some good info

Guides

Can be a bit quiet over here I drop by most days but hang out over on the aprilia performance forum... Rsvr.net
