Hello! New user looking to buy a rsv

Hi I’m looking to buy a Rsv in the next couple months and I’m looking for information on the bikes from riders that have owned them. I’d like to know what to look for when buying. I’ve loved these bikes as I was growing up always wanted one I’ve owned a few ape’s one from new like the mx and rs125s when I was a young lad so I got a taste for it like to own a aprilia lol

Af1 and aprilia.me have buying guides.
gen1 are cheaper and more reliable than the gen2 which have alternator burn outs plus more (very costly)
The differences is gen1 rsv is the basic model , the rsvr has ohlins and very light wheels.
The gen 2 the rsv1000r has basic suspension. The factory has the light wheels and ohlins. Confusing ! Dealers even get confused the difference should be 750-1000£ . The gen2 also resets it's mileage to zero if the battery runs down, check history !
On both bikes it's the way it's been maintained, not been crashed, has it been cleaned and looked after ? History file and all the point of sale info etc is a bonus.
These bikes are very reliable, but the electric start can fail if a fully charged battery isn't used. The sprag clutch repair costs £600 plus. Wire upgrades are essential. The af1 site has a good full write up.

Hi Scotty4545,I'm also new to the forum but I've owned my RSV 1000r for over 3 years now and without any real problems.
It's taken me to Scotland & back with a dozen mates on two occasions without incident,in fact,I have also done the same trip on a Gsxr 1000r K2
and my Aprilia was far more comfortable and equally as capable!
I can concur with Hertsrsvr when it comes to the clocks clearing,so check the MOT history to confirm mileage and it shouldn't be a problem.
It can be challenging to find neutral whilst the engine is engaged,this is common and doesn't suggest gearbox issues,however, a slave cylinder upgrade is
an easy and cheap fix and works well.
Go and buy one,be different,stand out from the crowd and most of all enjoy the experience!!

Hi.

I will be selling my 2002 RSVR at the end of May / June . It's been serviced every year and a genuine bike with all the Ohlins and carbon and lightweight wheels etc. Colour Yellow, mileage currently 24k, Lots of history, I have used the bike for local trips and European tours and it has been faultless. ( Booked on another tour in May ).
I am getting on towards 60yrs now and will be looking for a Multistrada to replace it. Value £3500.00
