Hey there, Im new to the forum, Accidently posted in the RSV4 part, I have an RSV mille 1999 model tri-colour,, I dont wanna get into the huge oil debate but im looking for some oil for the RSV, What do people use?? Cheers

I use the recommended 15w 50 semi as anything thinner seems to burn off to easy. I use Agip as that's what's available locally and if i'm not mistaken I think that's one of the recommended oil manufactures.
I've tried using 10w 40 and I was constantly topping up.

It's only my personal opinion but I think fully synthetic is a waste of time unless you're thrashing on track,

Dave

Shell/Castrol/Morris's are not proper synthetics, although it says so on their labels. .i.e. Fully is a Group IV synthetic..... Bit confusing really.

I use Mobil 1 15-50w fully synth. Group IV oil
Been using it for 4 years now.
Opie Oils (google them) for best price.

Mind you there is a serious argument these days just for using cheapo oils and dumping it every 2000 miles or so.

lol.. i new it would create a dilemma, Well ive heard alot about the mobil 1 stuff,, Ive heard good things also about 10w 40 Motul 5100? Anyone think this is good lube??

Funny thing is, if you asked people why they like a certain oil they probably wouldn't be able to give you a constructive answer :s

Right as i cant get a clear answer anywhere, lol,, i think ive made my mind up with Motul 5100 15w50... If anyone suggests not please say so not or forever hold there peace...

No mate, the Rotax takes 15-50w
I wish it was 10-40w....could save a fortune...:)

The 'W' goes after the first number and denotes the cold-start viscosity.

Griff says...."a good quality semi synth is what you should be looking for mate either 10w40 or 15/50 either are good mate!"

If it's good enough for Griff...

Yeah like i said think the motul 15w50 is the stuff for me, i heard 10w40 is a bit thin and can cause clutch slip,, thats my main concern on choosing the oil, Usually on a day to day motor id go fully synthetic all day long but these have a clutch to maintain aswell.... Cheers Guys you've done me proud.. Gotta think of a new post now...

No clutch slip onmine with 10 40 matey, used to change it every 2.5 k tho
ck
PS- funnily enuff my v4 needs 15 40

it don't matter what oil .... as long as its bike oil .... and changed regularly

That's my view too. Reasonable quality bike oil changed often is good.

Clutch slip is nothing to do with 10W40 or 15W50. It's caused by the wrong type of oil (car type where the clutch is dry) that has 'slippery' additives or caused by actual clutch problems.

Rob :)
