Heavy clutch - is this normal

Hi all, my clutch is really heavy and I was wondering if this is normal for an 04 Factory?
I have read a few posts from guys saying they have had to bleed their clutch fairly often. Could this be the case?
Sorry, but I have stuff all mechanical knowledge. If it does need bleeding how do I go about it?
Cheers for any replies.

if it needed bleeding it would feel softer (as air is easier to compress than hydraulic fluid)

i think the clutch is reasonable heavy but i have often used those hand strengthening things when working out so my hands are pretty strong and the clutch doesnt bother me too much, having just fitted a barnett kit with its super strong springs i came back from a days riding yesterday and my hand was tired!! rode alot today and its not so bad

so you can either do things to toughen up your clutch hand a bit more (it will inevitably get stronger if you just keep riding with a heavy clutch) or you could get an uprated clutch slave cylinder (MPL seems to be the favourite but there are a few different ones available i think) which would make the clutch a fair bit lighter

I went from a kawasaki zx6r to a mille and found the clutch a fair bit heavier to manage, mine is also a 04 reg.

Ive got used to it now but once i have the pennies ill be buying a after market clutch slave cylinder, they recon it reduces it by 30%.

You just get used to it mate ,in town traffic its pants but on roads where the rsv is meant to be its no problem as you do use it for the up shift anyway and sometimes the down shift once you get used to doing it.

While we are on the subject of Clutch slave cylinders i will post some new info i have on what i understand to be a new brand avalible.

approx the same price :devious

Mate, not teaching you to suck eggs here, but have you tried just shortening the span with the adjuster ?

When I first got my `04 RSVR two weeks ago, my initial thoughts were that the clutch was heavy, but once I decreased the span a bit, so I wasn`t at full stretch to pull the clutch in, it suddenly ceased to be a problem.....completely !

It doesn`t even cross my mind anymore now when riding, but the first hour or so I was riding it, it seemed like a serious problem at the time.

Of course, if you`ve already adjusted it, completely ignore everything I`ve said here ! :devious

And I thought Aussies were supposed to be well 'ard! First Stoner pulls a sickie and now this!:nana
(just joshing mate:thumbup).

sounds like what happened to me, i cannot ride with a big lever span anymore it just feels wrong and i dont remember any problems at all since i found the adjustments really

Thanks guys, appreciate your input. It is not that it is so hard I struggle but more that it is much harder than any most other bikes I have ridden and I have owned a few down the years. It is more like an old cable clutch than a hydraulic one!
Will try shortening the span and see how it goes:thumbup
