Hi All,

Its fiddle time on the bike, so have decided to put a set of heated grips on the bike (to extend the riding time of the bike into those cold winter mornings!) Few guys i ride out with have heated grips on their bikes and say its the best mod they've ever done.

Got some of the Poly heaters that fit inside the bars, were only £36! Fitting looks a bit of an arse, but should be able to do it.

Question is, does anyone else have heated grips (or am i just a nancy! - needless to say in 15 years of biking never had them before, although could well have done with them when i was commuting!)
If you do have them what do you have and are they any good.
Also where did you mount the switch, there ain't much, if any fairing to hid it behind on the Tuono!!

Cheers

Yes you are a Nancy!:yes
I had a go on a mates BMW yrs ago in the winter which had heated grips on. To be honest they are quite good, but I've got an excellent pair of winter gloves that keep the pinkies warm.:thumbup

Jonnyallover put some enduro guards on his T to stop some of the chill. Look ok, check em out.

Rode into London for a number of years all through winter (unless there was snow on the ground) so know what the feeling of your fingers warming up is like when they've been frozen (like someone is gripping them in a vice and tightening!) There has only been a couple of occasions since i finished commuting that i could have done with heated grips, and glancing over to my mates that had them and seeing the grins on their faces only made me feel even colder! If they are fitted discreet and don't cost much then for the odd occasion i'll need them then i think its worth it (can handle being called a nancy too!) Will get some pics up when they are done, you never know there may be some other closet nancies on here as well!

I have a set of the new oxford grips on mine £50 sheets off ebay, had them on all my bikes and they are great. Can use your summer gloves all year round and are **** hot in the rain.

Went over the Lecht in January bloody Baltic thank feck for the heated grips. Get them fitted.

Dont get the ones from last year they are a real pain difficult to use the new ones have much better button control easy to use, and a piece of piss to fit!

I guess it wouldn't be fair or sporting of me to make a comment like "Toughen the **** up, princess" from my cosy little spot in the tropics, now would it? Ok, so I won't!:thumbup

Only joking there Lock.

I did a lot of touring in the deep south of Oz in my younger days. Ended up with chilblains on fingers and toes more than once. If they hat heated grips easily available back then, I'd have fitted them too.:thumbup

I'll come out of the closet and admit to being a nancy too. I use heated gloves in the winter and they are the best bit of kit i've ever bought. Easier to fit than grips, but i do have the bike on an optimate now and again to make sure the battery stays ok.

My mates take the piss constantly, but when my hands are warm I really don't give a f......

Fit them

Fit them ........ Your hands will be warm ,and your whole body stays more comfortable,
Its like a big simple sum .
Cold air drains heat out of the body
you can only ride so long before you have depleted your heat reserves.

NOW ..... same cold air, but you are adding heat via the heated grips.
So you stay warmer longer = YOU RIDE LONGER

Ive had BMWs ....okay bike ..... but marvelous heated grips.

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO BE ANANCY. get yourself an electric heated jacket liner.
First used by snow mobiles, TO SURVIVE . They can tell you how to stay warm
.
Seattle has LONG cold winters 3 ft of snow on the edges and you are still warm as toast
So either stay inside ? or kit up and ride

Hey it is 2009 stay warm use all modern equipment

Already got the poly heaters, so will probably stick with them. As they fit inside the bars, everything on the outside looks standard. Just trying to work out the best way of wiring them up as i want it to look as neat and 'standard' as possible. Seen the autoswitch, which looks really good, that means you could turn on or off an auxillary item (such as the heated grips) with the dip/main beam flash. Just waiting for the answers to a few questions of the manufacturers before i jump in and fit them! Its either that or fit a switch and relay behind the clocks, with the switch just being below the screen. Decisions, decisions! Will be summer again before i get these things on!

He he.

I have a set of the Oxford grips to put on now I have finished fitting my HID lights (the power saved can go to the heaters!!).

Seriously, I commuted every day from bishopbriggs to gartnavel hosp for a year come sun rain or snow, and the next year from birmingham to bedford. I have to say, the heated grips I ahd on ma whee bandit were awesome.

Rainy day had to take my hands off the bars as they were steaming!

You know the feeling of warming your arse in front of a fire on a cold day? Heated grips is like that. Imagine the doube ecstasy of riding your freakin awesome bike, AND warming your arse (hands - not being literal here guys - its a metaphor). Can't beat it.

And yup, you're a freakin nancy. But a grinnin like'n idjit nancy.

My bike came with a pair fitted.

4 mins with a Stanley Knife and a pair of wire cutters for the cable ties and it was job done. Removed.

Pair of medium compound renthals fitted.

You big Pansy !
