The heal plates on my RSV1000R 2006 have some minor scrathes from boot heals. I think I can buff them out on an industrial buffing machine we have at work but I am told they are laquered and buffing will remove this and hence they will rust badly. So 1st do you think the scratches will come out and secondly will I have to re-laquaer them. If I have to re-apply laquaer what would you use and would it look like new?

Why worry about it?

Surely that's what they are supposed to look like. :eatcorn

If you must play with them then surely they are aluminium plates and therefore can't rust. Post up some piccies so we can see what the damage is then? :thumbup

Once polished they will just need the occasional clean with metal polish to keep them looking good :thumbup

And if they RUST at all write a scientific paper about it and you may win a Nobel prize :devious

Sorry bout that, couldn't resist. Alum alloy cannnot rust,it oxidises

Ah! Never crossed my stupid mind to think what they would be made from! Great micky take and well deserved. Will probably look for some carbon plates at some point.

I used to have carbon ones mate and they were *****..... Don't do it! :eatcorn

They flexed way too much and scratched up far worse than the aluminium ones.

Eventually I found an excellent solution to many problems.... a set of Griffs rear sets.. :doug

They were problably poor quality carbon AMB. Good quality carbon with a decent gel coat shouldn't mark easily. Mine have been seen over 12000 miles with A'stars Supertechs banging against them and there's hardly a mark on them. Maybe i'm lucky though

I agree, Griffs rearsets do look the bollox though. I'll have good look at them next time i'm up.

Quite true, they certainly weren't Boyler quality carbon that's for sure. :roll

Phil, if you do go for carbon then PM Boyler as he's the only man for the job.
