how easy are the head bearings to tighten up on an 01 bike? had it out today and there is visual movement and the handling is all over like dogsh*t.

.... pretty easy job , got the top yoke off and the locknut, the main nut was very loose, and heres my second problem ....

in days of yore I would of just tightened it up with a screwdriver and a one-size-fits-all spanner:devious , but I'd rather torque this one up correctly so I guess I will have to make a tool to bite into the main nut as I certainly arent paying nearly £70 for an aprilia one:jack

Anyone on here made one and how?

And while I'm at it I may as well try and find the correct torque value !

cheers in advance....:thumbup

Yeah, easy job and some guy on here made a socket up to fit by just welding bits of metal on a standard socket.

Take the nut to an engineering shop and get them to make you a piece of bar that fit over the stem and fits the nut. They'll need to weld a nut on the top too so you can fit a socket on it to torque it up.

They shouldn't charge you more than £15 as it should take a skilled engineer no more that 15 mins to knock one up for you.

no need to torque it up.

you could torque it but it will probably be too tight TBH. Just tighten the bottom nut until theres no play left and then nip the top nut down - not too tight.

Cheers fellas:thumbup
When I took the bike for a spin yesterday it felt very hairy and unsafe in the twisties, I could actually feel the movement whilst I was riding....:dowhat
Came back home pretty sharpish.........

Its not a good feeling I know but it is quite safe.

I changed my bearings for tapered bearings much better now
