Having issues / no rear brake

So I just bought an 01 Mille yesterday and I can't seem to get the rear brake to work. I've bleed the line about a million times, pulled and split the rear caliper to check the pistons and o-rings. I unbolted the master cylinder to check for leaks and I've come up clueless. I'm not losing fluid, I hear no air leaks and everything is working. Once the pads touch the rotor, that's it. They just won't build up pressure. Anyone have any thoughts for me? I'd hate to dump a bunch of money into a braking system and not know exactly where and why it's not working.

There loads of brake threads just search rear brake and follow the bleeding sequence. The back brake is useless we all seem to struggle, Welcome to APRILIA WORLD

PM'd you a picture of how you need to bleed the rear brake, I'm sure everyone else is sick of seeing it :biggrin
Good luck

Yeah I just read a thread about the procedure, doesn't make much sense to me how there could still be pockets of air in a closed system during a bleeding process but I'll try it anyway. Guess those Italians just have to complicate everything! Haha Will post results shortly

Nick... do I need to crack open and drink a new bottle of bubbly before I do this, or can I use one that's already empty? Lol Thanks for the pic

The RSV rear brake is the bane of my existence.

First you want to get the air from the caliper as per nikfubars picture, after all air is pumped from the caliper close the bleed nipple. Remember not to get too driunk on the dot 4 laced bubbly ;)
Secondly you want the caliper as low as possible with the pads almost together (mindful not to pop them out), then pry the pads open to push fluid back through the master cylinder+reservoir. You should see a good few air bubbles come back into the res. You may need to repeat this step a few times ensuring the res is topped up as not to draw any air in.

This sad ritual I have to perform almost monthly.

Lastly check the play between the brake rod and master cylinder, think it should 5mm! but dont quote me on that. I know that if its too small you can get a wonderful shade of red from your disc :(

I got the brake issue fixed. Now trying to decipher how to stiffen up my rear suspension. I've never messed with them and it's really soft. I think I've figured it how to take the front back to stock settings. Just need to research more for the rear. Anyone know any quick links?
