Handling

So...How do you find the handling of your bike? I've had my 06 Factory for 2 years and 12k miles, and though I think its great, I've never been totally confident in its handling..High speeds it always seems to be on the edge of a tank slapper, feels very unstable..Now its due for a rear tyre its very nervous feeling..
Does it need the suspension setting up by someone who knows what they're doing? I've no idea, just ride it..

Probably could do with a suspension set up yes, try Kais supsension in Lancashire. Have you tried tweeking the steering damper a couple of notches firmer? should cure any impending tankslappers. With regard to tyres it's all down to personal choice. Michelin pilot powers, Pirelli Diablos, Bridgestone BT015, Metzeler sportec M1,s, Dunlop Qualifiers. They're all more than capable than 99% of us.

Must admit I've never had a feeling of poor handling at speed, in fact it's the opposite....as it gets faster the bike seems to dig in and hold lines perfectly. Sounds like it needs some suspension work, change on damper setting or different tyre choice as per Legs' suggestion

Don't do anything till you see how it is with a new tyre, that will probably solve it:thumbup

This is the third set of tyres I've fitted, the Bridgestones felt lethal on it, now have Pirelli Corse 111's on..Tried the damper, and fiddling with the rear shock, but at the end of the day I don't know what I'm doing..May ask Jordan bikes next time I'm over as they seem to know what they're doing..

I have an 06 factory also, if you let me know your settings and weight i can let you know roughly where you should be with settings, also let me know fork leg height and rear shock height, have you or anyone adjusted things since it was new, have the forks been to bits before, any info will help:thumbup

Hi
Will have a look..I'm 15 stone, bought bike at 4 months old with 1k miles on, doesn't look as if it'd been tampered with, so assume the settings are as left the factory..Usually have my lad on the back and it feels great then, on the odd accasion I get out alone it feels really unstable..Not new to bikes been riding 30 years, so not my imagination..Think it really just needs setting up properly..

That sounds like the bike is set up for a heavier rider than you. Either that or you're just so used to the handling with the additional weight on board ???

Right..Forget what I've posted..Fiddled a bit and handling great, been out all day on my tod, and think a lot of it was the quick steering catching me out with the OZ wheels. Obviously my son being on the back means it's not been pushed too hard, so with the last couple of days he's been away I've had time to get more used to it..

cool, glad you sorted it mate, was gunna say, this is by far the best handling bike ive ever rode, never mind owned!
its so stable and planted, its unbelievable.
and its the first bike that ive sat on,and the suspension hasnt sunk to the floor, bearing in mind im 21st ish.it barely moves at all!
and its so easy to chuck about.

LOL,TRUE,but im at a disadvantage,my size takes 10bhp from my bike lol.
