Greeting all.
I'm picking up a 2008 Tuono R on Wednesday. It's black and totally stock. I'll be looking for a rear seat cowl (any tips on where to find one would be appreciated) and any tips on what mods to do to improve on it from the engine to handling etc. and what to look out for?
Also tyres. I'm tempted to try those Pilot road 4's. Anyone running these?

Thanks in advance.

Bram

Welcome to the site and Tuono ownership.
I guess the bike is one of the faster matte black versions? In answer to your questions;............
Seat Cowl,
You can order one from an Aprilia dealer,...not cheap tho.You will need the base and the ****** little screws that go with it.
https://www.ultimateparts.net/april...-Aprilia-Parts-and-Spares-Genuine-OEM&i=18926
They often come up on fleabay and the forum classifieds,so keep yer eyes open.Beware, some cowls are advertised to fit Tuono, but if its off an early RSVR,..it wont fit.
Engine,
Best mod is to lower the gearing if its on the std. 16/40.A good compromise is 15/42.
Next up,Map 2 and open cans.
Handling,
Throw away the original Tuono Sach rear shock. Its crap.Invest in Ohlins,Nitron or a Sach from the RSVR.Again, fleabay is your friend.
Front forks aint bad,...you just need to set them how you like.

Things to look for,....seized,or exessive play in the rear shock linkage.Ask when was the last time it was stripped and lubed.
Side stands are ****.If its fitted with a US version,...thats a bonus.
Usual crash damage,etc,....make sure the gear leaver or brake pedal have'nt mashed into the frame,...a few bikes have been written off for this.
Make sure everything works,....especially the electrics, the bikes achilles heel.
Tyres,
Owt black and round is ok these days.Pirelli man meself so cant comment the Michies.Oh btw,...FFS,dont let this turn into a tyre thread.Do a search,...there must be a hundred or more tyre threads,...and oil,so dont ask about that either.:lol

Hi Bram,
Welcome, as hilift says it's great to see another member from the East of England, looks like we will soon have enough members for an Eastern gathering come the spring.

Thanks all and much appreciated advice!
Matte black...are you allowed to ask ;)
Yep, open pipes and the airbox mod (Forza received an email from me today) will be started on by the weekend as will a full set of r&g case covered and bungs. I did have a good look at where the lever could meet the frame as noted by Kieth B, but wtf is it with Milles and Tuono swingarm sand those tiny little dents they get from kissing the exhuast?
I must have seen four bikes that were mint apart from that.
Everything else will be delt with after that and I can't wait. Now if only all this snow would **** off because I've got to ride the damn thing back on Wednesday.

Just rode back form the dealers...I ******* hate winter. I'm going to be spending the rest of the day cleaning it.
First impressions...I love the engine. That is all I can say as I rode for an hour on slimy greasy roads on new shiny slimy tyres.
Also the stock cans are the best stock cans that I've ever heard, they might be staying.
I'll post pics once I've cleaned it.

Hello. Mine was sparkly last week and now caked in salty *****. But hey, what a ride!
Welcome

First normal day in the bike and a woman pulls out on me...I slow down...she appears to have come to a stop, except for when I am a few metres from her...she pulls out properly into my lane and I have no choice but to come to an awkward stop at full right lock (not much of it on the Tuono as I found out this morning) from about two mph and I topple over unbalanced. I mostly caught it, but I managed to snap the break lever and scratch the bar end. Not a scratch anywhere else...Thank ****.
Needless to say she drove off.

So any recommendation on a levers bearing in mind as much as I'd like set of ISR all round, I've got other bike related purchases to make before I dive into that fetish?

Invest in a set of asv,s much much more adjustment , very durable finish and when you sell the bike you can sell the levers for basicly what you paid for ,em.

oh yea ! they flip backwards when bike is dropped. so wont break !!

Welcome mucker, if yer going for replacement levers imo yer want the full size clutch lever and whitever for the brake.

I've got a set of asv's on ma T but they're both the shorties, unless yer got small mits the clutch can be to short.

Kind of lucky escape and glad yer ok and the only damage wiz the lever and bar end.

Thanks for the tip.
I've never liked short levers to be honest and I'm going to grab a pair of standard black asv levers tomorrow.
Yes, I was lucky and that fact that it doesn't weigh a metric fuckton helped a lot. I'm so ******* greatfully that nothing else had a scratch on it.
Now to make sure that I'm heard more clearly...I need that airbox mod...if they'll get back to me.

Bram let me know how you get on with the air box thing ie noise etc , as ive considered some sort of air box mod .

The airbox mod is a waste of time,...it does **** all.
Folks go bleating on about more air being rammed into the airbox,....but how can it?The airflow is restricted by the intake duct under the fairing.
I removed the plate on my bike and it made no difference whatsoever.
