Aldo,
at the moment I can only ride "local" as I dont have a van or trailer. Although my DRZ is better than I expected, a long ride will not be good, especially if I break it & cant get home.

Hopefully that will be resolved.

Lately, I have had a couple of rides out around the North Yorks Moors area.
Some quite technical (challenging), mainly because of the rain / mud on the steeper climbs.

As I mentioned, I am starting to collect info on trails within the Durham area, I have the OS maps & will mark them up as I receive information. The TRF is very helpful. I have just received a full set of police approved trails for Durham & will gradually work my way around them.

There are a couple of internet sites, TrailWise etc, that can add to this.

As you know, there is only a certain amount of info that can be derived from these maps & the only way to check on conditions / access / interesting sections is to actually ride them.

I am all up for riding further afield (little pun there), with areas north of Newcastle / Hexam / Hartside having lots of places to entertain. As you know, its always better to ride off-road with others.

Last time we spoke, you were saying that its a different ball game north of the border, access to land & trails is severly restricted.

Hopefully I will soon get my feet set & can plan routes (from experience or maps) that will be good for anyone from the T-Zone, I know Felix is interested, fitting in fuel / food stops with somewhere safe to leave the van / trailer. :thumbup

Defo up for a ride out (when my hand heals - cant ride at the mo) chompin at the bit to get out again.... Like the idea of exploring Durham area etc.... or hartside or wherever !

I never ride off road on my own, usualy ride with two mates. (it just wouldnt be the same without anyone taking the piss out of me when i fall off) . With a bit of notice / planning one of them gets a works van so happy to travel.....

:)

Left it too late this year, but next year - think summer - we are aiming for a cheapo camping weekend sampling the delights of wales...... seems like there is loads to go at down there too.

Did the yamaha enduro school day out there years ago and you can ride for chuffin miles n miles n miles....

Good to see you are on the mend Felix.

I am sure there are loads of interesting places around Harogate you can show us.

The hilly areas of the country definitelly make for the best rides.

f, what happened to your hands?

OT, sounds like you've got a plan and I know what you mean about Trailwise. The people I've spoken to on the TRF always recommend that for the first few times your out that you go with they're group/s just to keep you right etc.
I'm fed up riding about on my own apart from the safety aspect I'm always concerned that I get stuck in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal and a 10/20 mile hike back to my van.

Mr b, I hope they don't keep you uninformed for to long, it must be a worry not knowing what's happening.

OT, I'm sure I could make enough room in my van for your machine if that helps let me know.

Cheers Aldo, I am sure I will take you up on your kind offer. I might even get you some Emva Cream to show you my appreciation.

Like you say, its no fun falling off if no one see you, especially if its spectacular or done with style.

When I have been out & well & truly stuck in some deep muddy rut half way up a steep bank after falling off, its really funny when there is a few there, but I doubt if its much fun by yourself.

Mr B - Hope all works out on the job front...

Mr A - Fell off "trying" to wheellie about 6 weeks ago. Had x ray's that dont show any break's, but have a few probs = cant use front brake (or pick anything up) :(

Olaf - walked a few of the legal green lanes just outside of harrogate, too short really for a day out. Some crackin ones out that go to Hawes (sent you a pm)

Seems loads on trailwise between Scarborough & Whitby... Happy to try any really.

Mr F, (its getting a bit like reservoir dogs on here), I have been out with one of the north yorks locals a couple of times, we ended up at Whitby & there is loads more routes that are not identified on Trailwise or as "approved trails - BOATS" on ordanace survey maps.

Thing is, when I get back & try to track the route from memory on OS maps or Trailwise, its impossible because the route we took is not even shown anywhere as any form of track.

I have concluded that local knowledge is best.
