There's a great article in last Wednesday's MCN (14th Sept). See here...

There are a couple of idiots who have left comments so I've tried to set them straight but no doubt I'll get slated for it on there now!

Basically, the RSV comes out on top in the full article and the reviewers really sing its praises. Oddly, the spec of the test bike in the paper states that the RSV1000R has an Ohlins rear shock. Either they've made a mistake or the previous owner had it put on.

From what I can see of the Aprilia in their photo, it's got Ohlins front forks, which, if I'm not mistaken, were only fitted to the Factory model back then. Seems that MCN just didn't state this.

Aprilia started fitting Ohlins forks to the RSV1000R as standard from 2006, when they also made the other mods to the air intake, fairing and tail piece. The bike in the the MCN piece definitely wasn't a Factory model.

MCN sucks cock! I ant following no motorcyclenews trash. No better than the ballshit tabloids.... IMO :)

I'm obviously mistaken, then. :-D But how many people fit a rear Ohlins to a low-mileage bike (assumption), as the RSVR was always fitted with a Sachs damper?

could have been the stockker didnt catch the wheels in the paper and its in my van at work but ohlins was an optional part so could have been fitted with out the oz wheels and not be a factory :s

Me for 1. Also had some Race-Tech internals thrown into the forks too. I know of a couple of other bikes in NZ that have done similar... it's probably quite a common Mod for us R owners.

Is it a worthwhile mod on the road, though? I have an R, and when the Sachs damper is past its best, I will no doubt replace it with Ohlins, but otherwise it seems ok to me at the moment. :)
