GPR exhausts finally sorted.

Must be ages since I bought these exhausts, but the simple fitting instructions were a tad false to say the least.
In the kit, to add confusion the wrong link pipes were sent, the spring locators were 90 deg out. So the cans had that sad expression from the back. Had to wait 2 weeks while Arthur at GPR [had to work for his money] organised some replacements from Italy.
Then the l/hand can when attached to the link pipe was like a floppy mammary.
Bit of head scratchin and decided to shim up the excess gap with .15 mm stock shim. Finally it all fits together rather well. Had to put some heat reflective tape to the unside of the seat cowl...just incase of meltdown.
Tried to post some pics but the previous pics of the exhausts have taken up too much space on the pic manager. Waiting for them to be deleted.

Glad you got sorted in the end , can you host pics via photobucket ? be interested to see cans as I think I'm going to have try and move/adjust cans when I get mine as they touch number plate ???

Rawly, just hope yours come with the spring locators in the right place. Took me a while to fathom that one out cos the pics on ebay and in the instructions dont show the positions. Emiled Arthur the problem and he the forwarded on to the dippy italians at GPR
He did say that he has had problems before!!!
Any tips you need when yours arrive, just ask. Be very careful if you have ordered the titanium ones, they dent very easily, made from tin foil.
Post up some pics just now.
Nearly forgot, you do get a number plate bracket and other bit n pieces with the kit, but too me it looks a bit naff. I got hold of a rotary burr, shoved it in a hand drill and notched a piece out of
the top corners of the plate. Made a thin spacer to set the plate out a bit and bingo, looks a treat.

Sorry me causing confusion , my bike has devil cans fitted but they are quite long , I'm not keen on the having the pillion pegs on as I think they spoil the look of the cans and the cans touch the number plate either side , so was just wondering about how other aftermarket can look and what hangers people use . I will hopefully stick up some pictures tomorrow to explain better

Interesting topic of conversation Mr Chips. I bought a new set of High level Carbonox cans from Moto Legends & experienced fitting difficulties back in June this year, as you mentioned the fitting diagrams were very poor which was acknowledged by Arthur at Moto Legends. I then went off to Assen for the Moto GP. the boys following commented on how much vibration & movement there was in my cans. Damage was caused over the 1000 mile round trip to my end cans where they rubbed against the number plate. Even though I was down to a 6" x 4" plate.

Upon my return the exhaust straps had fractured & some replacements were sent out. I then worked out that you need to apply four springs to each end can so there is Contra pressure exerted so the cans don't twist. OK so the cans are now holding level. & everything seems ok. Next thing the two exhaust hangers one fractures & snaps the other is fractured. Arthur sends out replacement hangers & promises new Straps (still no show.) I'm now so pissed off I sell the on E Bay & get a set of replacement Mivvs.

If you look at The Moto Legends web site they use photos of my bike & the fitting instructions I sent into them to simplify how to do. I am.

Will post some photos I took tomorrow as it's now too late & I've had too much beer.

These were the High lkevel GPR's I had & although everybody liked the sound of them & they looked great they just flapped around like a couple of Banshees. The hangers & Straps are not up to the job & I do not reccomend to anybody. Still waiting for an explanation from Moto Legends & GPR. Dissatisfied customer.

You need two springs either side to create contrary pressure.

The Mivvs I replaced with which are fantastic. (so far.)

Hey Rawly,I've got Evotech hangers on my bike. They do 'em in silver or black and you dont need the expensive rubber bushes like the Aprilia ones.(eh,Mickey?;) )
Mind you,my exhausts are standard mount Arrows. The Arrows came with 12mm spacers that give me the same measurement gap, either side of the no.plate.(std 9"x7")

Mivvs look the bizz mate.
My after market cans are very close to the number plate too, but it is the standard one. Don't want to change it, as its an excuse to get pulled. I mean stopped, not tugged.:thumbup

Silly thing was that I hadn't realised they were "Top Hats" ie two seperate rubber bushes one each side that peel apart relatively easily. Of course me being a numpty & with a history of wrecking everything I apply brute force to, usually at great peril & expense these days I try to reserve the right arm a little. On the occasion when removing the bushes I made an attempt to push the rubber through the space. of course they wouldn't go with the pressure I was willing to exert. I thought the rubber had probably gone hard over time hence the new bushes & rubbers.
On my Tuoldo when I refitted the origional can & pillion footrests I simply wrapped some insulation tape around some nylon spacers until the fit was tight & hey presto off to the dealers job done.
still gasping for breath & I'll mention it just one more time for those who don't already know. £26.50 for O/E busher & rubber exhaust hanger grommets inc £4.50 P&P.

If you look at the hangers on the GPR cans you can see how they extend about 9" horizontal with no further support. You don't need to be an engineer to realise that they aint going to support the cans adequetely with the vibration from the V twin. You can alsonsee how I used four springs on each can to create force required to maintain the position of the cans so they don't twist & caffle with the number plate. (Caffle is that common nationwide terminology.)

Good thing is I can also get some throw over panniers fitted to the bike now as well.

Worth noting for the Future Keith. Suppose I should be quite thankful my hangers were for nawt as they came with Sparky's Akkras that I sold on without.

realise its a bit of a faff but best way to attach photos is via a photo bucket account. simply upload to photo bucket then resize if you want then copy & paste the via the bottom choice of link.

Reading through your post this morning it is exactly how mine were, sad droopy expression & floppy mammary left hand pipe. Don't need to worry about meltdown as they don't tend to get too hot.
I'm going to give Arthur some grief this morning as I am still waiting for his response.

Just one other thing you need to look out for & that is the exhaust straps which are a bitch to bend into shape as they are not pre formed have a tendancy to fracture at the pinch point. keep a look out for there condition as I went through three sets since June.

Hah, tricky you had the wrong link pipes, its the same problem I had. In the pic where you have the 2 springs attached, the connecting lug is in the wrong place. 2 lugs should be inline with the eye connectors
on the cans. Then one spring fitted to the outer side and one to the inner. Post up some pics just now.

Not an issue any more as I got so fed up I sold the pipes on but wouldn't reccomend to anybody in the future.

Hope pictures work !! , thanks for the link Keith , pictures dont really show problem with the number plate , previous owner had small plate on which i dont want and his legal jobbie had been trimmed(badly) to fit between exhausts . Will stick new plate on tonight as its in for MOT in morning and use some spacers/washers to gently spread exhausts to keep it off plate for now .
Long term would prefer to replace hangers and lose pillion pegs .

Rawly, those are some kind of rocket launchers on there. Bet they are Loud. See what you mean with the number plate issue
Well, hope the pics come out ok of the GPR system I have had bother with. Not 100% sure how to post pics.

Bummer, still no pics, well I give up. Just get a load of spiel from photobucket and pic details but no pics. Have to wait till the underlings return home. So much for user friendly pc's

Heyup paul, check your emails, lord knows if anything got sent from photobucket, but I hope so
