Gen1 Thermostatic Fan Switch Temp thresholds?

Folks,

My thermostatic switch which turns fans on/off is playing up, as they are prone to do with age.

Anyone know the on/off temp spec, approx price and a good supplier for the Gen 1 switches?

I understand it's a M22 x 1.5 thread spec (29mm socket). Is that correct?

Apparently can be hard to remove from the 3 way manifold on left side of bike due to locktite. I presume warming it will help, as I don't have an impact wrench. But will use a standard ratchet and give it a wack.

Apparently switch temp thresholds for Gen 1 & 2 are: 97C on, 93C off. Didn't realise it was quite so high... so will double check if faulty.
- Thread spec confirmed as above! :)

- I understand they retail for around £25.

If anyone knows otherwise... please advise... thanks!

Yup, my unit is definately faulty.

Discovered Fiat use exactly the same design of unit, but threshold are 92C on, 87C off. They can be picked up for around £10 to £20, so cheaper than Aprilia part.

The std spec of 97/93C seems quite high, especially as running temp is around 76C

Anyone know anyone who changed to a lower temp threshold switch?

Any considerations... before I stop talking to myself? ;) :lol

good job you knew the info saved us replying :thumbup

Well... I do now. My previous input was a load of old cobblers! ;)

Discovered (before i bought one! ) the Fiat unit was a different thread size.

Both my the old unit, and replacement, were stamped 95/92. (I think the earlier temp figures I posted above may have been for a Gen 2, but they were claimed to be for a Gen 1... Which means it's not only this forum which posts duff info, cough...;) )
Having replaced it, I noted my fans now come on with a display indicated temp of 90C, and stop at an I indicated 86C. Which suits me fine!

If anyone else needs to do a replacement, make sure you source a 29mm socket first. Not a common size in most standard socket sets, which typically go from 27mm to 30mm. Seally do one via Eurocarparts for £5.99, which is about as cheap as you can find anywhere.

HTH's....
