Gen1 Headlights - Cleaning inside

Has anyone ever tried to clean the "inside" of the headlight assembly on their Gen1
My bike's is very manky looking, and is obviously reducing the effectiveness of the lamps.

Would I need to break the seal of the lens to the casing to get inside, or is there an easier way?

If anybody has done this I would be grateful for any info.

Cheers :cheers

Gray,

On mine, the lower 'silvering' is burnt... either because a previous owner used higher wattaged bulbs or probably because after 22k miles with headlamp always on.. it just does.
Looks a but naff... but doesn't affect brightness significantly (other than to low flying observers!) as it faces upwards...!

I may get some silver paint and touch up assuming headlamp lens removal proves to be reasonably do-able, source a replacement or get it re-silvered in due course.
... Otherwise my reflectors look clean.

If yours has ingress of dirt, I guess the seals must have gone, or not been replaced properly...

PS: If you get to remove reflector... pls update on ease & process... :)

Will do Paul, not too sure if I want to risk "breaking" the seal tho'. ...

Gray,

Told by a Belfast dealer today that Gen1 headlight lens units are sealed with adhesive , hence need warming in an oven to soften glue before removal. Sounds like best left alone unless absolutely necessary.

Paul,

Thanks for the info, a bit expensive if you cock it up. I'll live with it I think.
