I am looking at 2 Tuonos and having never had one would like some advice, one is a 2004 Gen 1, Racing one in black, 27K with full history and plenty of carbon, ohlins etc and looks tidy up at just under £4K and the other is a Gen2, R version with 15K and on at £3600... what the better one and is there a lot of difference between the 2 generations?? Any advice would be good:

If it were me,...I'd go for the Racing. For me,the Racing is the quintessential T.Keep it right and you will never lose money on it.Very little between Gen1 and 2 performance wise, but the Gen 1's are little more involving. You did'nt say what year the Gen 2 R was.The early 2006/7 models had a few problems that were'nt sorted out until 2008.
Dont get me wrong, the Gen 2 R is a great bike,...you would'nt be disapointed with either of them.

I was in a similar situation to you a while ago, ended up plumping for the Gen 2, purely due to the fact that I prefered the body styling (sexy rear end and more angular handlebar fairing, rather than the Darth Vader helmet). Rode both and they felt almost exactly the same. Haven't looked back, I use my Tuono every day for work and fun you will enjoy it.

I have a Gen 1 and love it to bits, the Gen 2 does edge it on looks but the 1 has it on parts/Ohlins goodies.

£4k is a bit steep but then the good weather is just around the corner :)

Thanks for all responses and advice. I think my heart says go for gen 1 racing as its a real keeper and looks almost exotica and special. Don't think it will lose money but want to keep for a good while! Hope to get on some forum rideouts if they happen?? Cheers all and will post pics of bike once deal done!!

Well after all the advice, thank from all who did, I have taken the plunge, deal done and collect the bike on Monday. I will upload some pics and already have the ebay bug, have a modified airbox, chip and other stuff on the list...
Also might go for an Oberon clutch slave cylinder as heard its worth doing, but will ride it and see!
I went for the Gen 1 Racing, 2004 and at a good price, the carbon and ohlins and looks of the Gen 1 was too much... Anyway will post some pics once I get it back and will try and share experience of mods I do and also ask for guidance... and not too much pi$$ taking!!

Enjoy ya new steed L1970...

I'm sure you've done your homework, but if you haven't already then check the bottom of the forks for cracks. Tyre bods have been known to accidently over tighten the pinch bolts on Ohlin forks....
Look forward to many silly grins !
:)

Enjoy it and welcome to the fun house.
