although the mirrors work *(ish) they look *****
what have people done to theirs on here

Must confess, I prefer the looks of the Gen2 mirrors, but the Gen1 are taller and work better in my opinion. As someone on this forum (I think) once said, in their experience, the better the mirrors look, the less functional they are.

I had a minor scuff on one mirror, so purchased a pair of Gen2 after market mirrors (via UK eBay seller). To stop them vibrating down I rotated them (to tighten) an extra turn. Which caused one to crack when riding and snap off! So be warned, if you buy cheap China trash like I did!

I ended up putting the originals back on, which work fine, are well made, don't change position through engine vibes, and allow riders to see behind them without having to look so far down. :)

So if anyone is aware of quality after market mirrors, that look good, are nearly as functional as the Gen1 originals, and a reasonable price, I'd be glad to know too. :thumbup

been looking at bar end mirrors but like you said, they all look a bit cheap and cheerful

At least you should get good weighting with bar end mirrors which is important for big V twins to help stop vibration. But being so low there is less time to observe road ahead when checking mirrors... which raisers safety issues. Especially as mirrors are usually checked at times of manoeuvre, approaching junctions, overtaking, etc, when riders need maximum concentration on road ahead, especially when pushing it.

I couldn't fit bar end mirrors as handlebars would be to wide to get through my garden gate! :)

:) Well... I did do some basic calculations before I bought the bike, but it was still a minor gamble as to whether the bike would pass through side gate. Had it not, the gate post was certainly going to get modified! :thumbup. Can't justify doing that though just for mirrors... but for the whole Tuono, it would have been a different matter! ;)

PS: Said gate post boundaries neighbours house, so modification would mean cutting a chunk out of it, not relocating post.
