Gear change, 5th to 6th

Hi All,

I'm finding my 09 rsvr has developed a need for two foot movements, changing from 5th to 6th, it's like a false neutral but not quite going in smoothly. Anybody find the same issue with their bike? this only really happens when under a bit of power.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried adjusting the gear lever so you can push the lever further up with the same movement? I found this helped 5th to 6th changes on mine.

Same as nipple says, had this problem on both the rsv and tuono and just adjusted the lever lower so it was less of a lift to get it into gear

One spline does usually

Hi,

Yes, have done this already, plus I have new boots for this season and they are not so thick around the toe area, it just seems that there is a small gap when trying to connect under power, don't remember it being like that last year.

What is the general feeling as far as not using the clutch when changing up, obviously down needs the clutch. does anyone on here not use it when giving it some hammer through the gears?

It shouldn't really be a problem but I try not to do it too regularly. For the sake of being nice to your gearbox it's not hard to pull the clutch lever in before changing up gears ^_^
Make sure your chain is adjusted to the proper amount too, i'm not too sure about the RSV but a lot of bikes change gears nicer when there's a bit of tension on the chain.

I dont use the clutch on upshift except when in town some would say its easier on the clutch and wont harm the box if done correctly

Make sure you have a little pressure on the lever before you let off the gas

And make sure when in 5th you press it all the way up
