fuel stabilizers/additives

Anyone using fuel additives have any problems? I recently added a fuel stabilizer (Maxima) to deal with the potential problem of 10% ethanol in California petrol. I added the correct amount as directed. Just recently on the same tank I had the engine sputter and could not get it to run properly over about 3000rpm. I shut off the engine called the local bike shop which services the bike. They surmised, as did I, it was either a fuel problem or an eletrical issue. I fired up the bike and it ran fine for 5-6 miles then the same symptoms showed up???
The only thing different I've done since the bike was new was add after market exhausts, K&N air filter, changed mapping, and added the fuel stabilizer. I don't think any of the aforementioned should be problematic.
My first trouble shooting solution is to put new petrol in without the additive.
Help if you can.
Thanks

Ethanol is an oxygen base. If you expand oxygen in liquid form... WOW... Let me at it! What harm would that do but boost some grunt, use less gas. So, the bike ran well with all the mods, means nothing electrically, right? The maxima deal was to shut the bike down with a fuel stabilizer? Again, cars are on the side of the road, you are hung up going to work with quote, a 'potential problem of 10%..." more oxygen sort of speak?

Valves stick and rings happen to gum up without the ethanol, right? So, don't you have a problem either way? But you 'added' another problem thinking eth is a problem? I think you answered your own question... Where would you start with the electrics if the bike starts up each time after 6 miles you let the crap evap out of the hot engine? It seems to not like that liquid mix is my guess.

Prolly correct. Yesterday I fired it up and drove to the nearest gas station to fill up. I had about 1/3 tank left. It ran flawlessly to and from the gas station, about 5 miles round trip. So I'm thinking it doesn't like the additive..
Thanks for the input.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

I heard a higher ethanol fuel content might affect plastic tanks, but not running of the motor.

I read somewhere that the UK ethanol content was around 5%,...but rising to 10% in 2013.
There has certainly been a few cases of plastic tanks derforming in the 'States,....Ducati tanks being the most common.Owners of old Brit bikes with glass fibre tanks are also farting as there have been a few cases of them melting. There are some tank treatment cures available.Never heard of it effecting the motor.
