After raising the fuel tank at the weekend to repair a paint scratch i now seem to have a fuel leak from somewhere that has ruined the paint on the lower fairing.I raised the tank to see if i could find the problem but all seems dry,i found fuel coming from a tube that exits the lower fairing.Could i have disturbed something when i had the tank up.Any help much appreciated.

Probably the in tank vent and overflow hoses perished and allowed fuel through

Ring aprilia performance and they will send you the hoses and clips needed to sort it out.

Pretty easy job tank off ,drain, pump out ,disconnect old hoses ,replace with new then reverse to refit with maybe a bit of blue hylomar sealant around the pump base

Thanks for your help,i will give them a call.

Just called them, and they have said it's the resin tank that distorts due to the high level of ethanol in modern fuels, very helpful and told me how to reshape the back of the tank with a heat gun,he said the pipes in these tanks are resin and that wouldn't be the problem.Could i pick your brains on how to drain the tank,he did tell me but if it's not written down it's in one ear and out the other. Many thanks.

Sorry thought you had the earlier metal tank ...can't remember how i did mine now probably disconnected the hose off the throttle bodies and drained it into a jerry can

Tank off and drained, pump out,one of the drain fittings on tank blocked solid.Cleaned out both fittings and now breathing.Few questions, the guys at aprilia performance said to warm the tank to bring it back to shape, how long will it stay in shape before i have to strip it down again?.Can i run it on normal unleaded?,i ask because the bike only started leaking after i filled it with shell v power. Many thanks.forgot to mention that it looks like the pump has been off and there has been some type of sealer used on it.What sealer would you recommend using.

Blue hylomar for the sealer

You need to use fuel with the least amount or no ethanol in.

How long have you had the bike ? It may have already of gone out of shape and you lifting the tank was all it needed to cause a leak

Only had it three weeks, and it was a struggle to lift the tank when i changed the plugs, there was already paint damage around the front edge of the tank so i guess it has been like it for a while. On the fuel issue, any idea which company uses the least amount of ethanol in there fuel.

Here's a few posts from aprilia.me pop over and say hi

If you get it sealed ok then it helps to elongate the rear mounting holes to give a bit of wriggle room
