Fuel Leak

Hello. Yes, I've got a petrol leak from fuel pump/tank face, and I can see where it's distorted. It is very difficult to bolt back down at the front because of expansion. I've seen an 'o4 (1st gen) tank for sale, but will it fit my '02 RSVR? I've read other threads on this problem but not sure if anyone has found a cure that isn't sort of temporary.
Also, maybe the problem is common enough that a second hand tank will also leak? At least I won't have to drain the tank as it's bone dry!
Interestingly, also have a 2000 t595 and had to replace the tank on that..also a p6 nylon and also made by Ascerbis. Thanks for any
help on this. Regards, Matt.

In my case, the fix for my Daytona tank was allowing it to dry out well and shrink back to nearly its original size. Then I coated the entire inside with Caswell Epoxy Gas Tank Sealer. Not only did it seal a leak in one of the internal vent/drain tubes, but it has also prevented the tank from swelling again.

The '01 -'03 RSV fuel tank is made in the same manner and material. There is no reason the Caswell sealer shouldn't work also, unless the tank is distorted/damaged beyond repair.

At the fuel pump/fuel tank interface, will the plate bolt to the tank? Is the surface no longer flat? Does the seal distortion exist with the tank in a free state, or only when it is bolted to the frame? Is the o-ring/gasket in good shape?

The tank on my RSV is swelling, but not enough to cause a problem yet. In time I'll have to give it the same treatment as the Daytona.
