i have a big o ring on one side of my forks so i can see how far they travel after a ride out i found i only have about 20mm left before they would have bottom out does this sound a bit soft or is this about correct ?? the top adjusters seem very hard to turn unless they are already at there max setting

by the way the forks have been fully serviced and set up about 1500 miles ago at great cost by the last owner

Im no suspension guy, I pay for someone to sort it out for me who knows what they are doing.

Im pretty sure your meant to use all the fork travel so to answer your Q, yes it sounds fine, and you have a little bit left for track when your brake much harder.

If you dont know what your doing dont fiddle ;)

thanks thats put my mind to rest and i agree with the not fiddling with the suspension not got a clue how to set up never have never will lol

There seems to be less travel in the Ohlins than the other forks. I think they've got the racing springs in them as well so shouldn't feel soft or owt. Best get them set up I'd say though. Its only a couple of quid.

my standard forks bottomed oot after I thought I would get a good wheelie fae the brow of a hill at 95mph only fir the bike tae take off. mental note know the road better in future. hope this helps daz min

not that helpful but made me pmsl i like the odd wheely myself brave man top of a hill lol

Set your sag to about 35mm or a fraction less.
Then ride it in anger (within reason:yes) and check how much travel you've used.
If it's bottoming, or close to bottoming, then you might need to swap the springs for a slightly higher/stiffer spring rate.
What was the physical build of the guy you bought the bike from...if he was a lot smaller than you, and he's had his forks rebuilt professionally, then there's a chance that they would have installed softer springs.

When we got our bikes serviced Griff sent us out for a spin with cable ties on one fork leg. I did a few monster braking runs on my Factory just to check, on both smooth and rough roads. The cable tie was about 3mm from the bottom. I had my suspension set up for me last year (best £20 spent) so i would reckon yours isn't far off. Do a few practice hard braking runs and buikd up until you either get a squeal from the tyre or a momentary lock up - then see if there is any travel left.

You want the suspension as SOFT as is possible without it weaving or wallowing - this will keep the tyres on the road. If under normal/fast riding you have about 20mm I shoukdn't worry, but it would be a good investment to get a suspension specialist to sort them for you for what it costs.

thanks all .....very good advice, i would say he was about the same size as me so sounds like they are spot on will get them checked anyway like you say cost is next to nowt thanks again
