front discs, battery

hi guys!

i've got some questions 'bout my Mille RP 01.

Since i have bought it the front discs sound like ,"someone is shaking screws in a tin can" ,while moving the bike slowly. Is it normal that the floaters have so much space they can produce such loud sounds? Radial play is about 0,2mm, axial 1-2mm.

#2 : My battery is low after a week / a week and a half of leaving the bike untouched in my garage. Sometimes it starts without any problems but sometimes i have to recharge the battery. this happened to me three times last season and thats a bit too often. The battery is new!
I heard something about a bypass... can someone explain to me how this is done or if it is really necessary and will stop this problem.
If I am right the bypass should be attached due to a too slim charging cable in some Mille models.
This would explain to me why my bike suddenly won't start despite i've ridden it for a longer time before I left it in the garage. But in fact I don't really know if this is the matter with my bike so I first want to hear some opinions of experienced aprilia riders

thanks for your answers in advance!
cheers!

if its alarmed then battery will probably run down after a week, I've never had a problem as i keep it on a maximiser, but battery Will run down much quicker in winter temperatures. my blade which doesn't have an alarm takes about a month to run down over winter so every week give it a top up. but the mille is Italian after all so always kept on maximiser. which is less expense and less hassle than replacing the battery.

my mille brakes make a low scraping noise when wheeling it about but same as any other bike as the pads scrape against the disc, but the sound you describe sounds alarming and needs inspection. it might be corrosion or a knackered disc or knackered pad

they certainly click but that sounded louder than normal in the video, if in doubt get it looked at. its not the kind of thing to ignore

that is why the discs are called floating. unless they move in the other direction it is ok. maybe they were overheaten so they are not much straight anymore. mine only make noise like sandpaper on metal. no extra clicking
the battery. you can remake the seat screws for quick release ones so you can disconnect the main fuses when parking, it will reset your dash though. i also noticed (by a chance after a track day) that my battery is not exhausted so quickly if i disconnect the main beam light connector on the left side under the windscreen. sounds weird but tested on my bike. maybe the battery gets charged more if the light is not on while driving or something like that.

hm I think I didn't explain it well to you.
so...
my brakes don't click, they just sound like yours "sandpaper on metal"-everything ok!
, BUT if i hit a hole or some rough pavement my discs sound like a tamburine!

i get a bit of quiet scraping and clicking if i move them, i don't get any other sounds from them.

maybe someone else Will come along with more knowledge but safety first, id get them looked at

I just ordered this wee fecker if your looking for a decent battery

14ah instead of 10ah and 200 cca instead of 180 cca [cold cranking amps]

Had one of these in the wifes benelli and it turned her over nicely

Our bikes eat batteries it would seem, went to take her to the dealer the other day and she was flat again even though I regularly top her up over winter

It was almost 3 years old though

Hi V60, my personal opinion is that they look ok. My RSV discs arent quite that loose but i had a ducati which had discs much like yours, very loose and noisey. I think it is just there to allow for the expansion of the discs when riding fast when they get hot. If i had a spirited ride on the Duc and then stopped, the discs would be absolutely solid, no rattling. As long as all the little 'bobbins' (or whatever theyre called) between outer and inner are secure then i'd say it will be ok.
As with anything though, if you're still unsure take it to a trusted bike mechanic and get their opinion! Dont gamble with your safety !!
And yep, pretty much every bike i have had makes a scraping noise when its being pushed. as said above, it sounds like its the pads gently touching the disc - nothing to worry about. If the bike is hard to push however, then your brakes could be sticking which would need a service. Hope this helps

Don't think I've ever seen discs as knackered as those before mate!! I would bin em, I had about 1mm play back and forth in mine but not left & right. I replaced mine with a set of Armstrong wavey discs, not bad price £240.00

allright thanks a lot!
I think I am going to buy those, can't find any cheaper discs.

You will proberbly find the carriers are just as worn & it is just as expensive to have new discs fitted to your old carriers as buying new ones

Yeah right, just found some manufactured by Micron.
50€ for 10, need 20...= 100€s for simple Aluminium floaters.
just as simple as the calculation... i'm going straight for new discs
all answers checked!
Thanks a lot mates, great community!
