Front Brakes binding....

Hi All,

OK, so the MOT said brakes were binding slightly.
Got home, fine nothing noticable. Parked up. Got back on it, travelled about 50 yards, leant in to turn left, and got slammed on my face:eek:
Picked the bike back up and couldn't see a problem....other than a few scratches and smashed indicators. Wheel rotates fine, no grinding noise from the disks/pads....

So - without paying £250 plus, has anyone ever had an issues with binding brakes? Do you know how to fix 'em? Is it just a bleed - or a re-build?

Really appreciate your help on this, as she's almost repaired, but i'm scared to death of getting back on till i'm sure it's not gonna turn from Buck Rodgers - to Buckaroo

Cheers!:pirate

This happened to me in the winter this year on my old sv650. let off the power in a slippy bend and bosch front tyre locked up!!!

it was due to crap inside the brakes. salt, dust, muck you name it.

Only thing i could do was strip down the brakes clean them really well and replace all the seals, if the brembos are the same ( can't see why they wouldn't be) you'll have two sets one dust seal (outer) and then the (inner) fluid seal i think!

seals are pricey for what they are :angry

Also check the floaters to make sure there's no clagged up ones. Its my understanding you should be able to turn them round with thumb and fore finger:biggrin If the disc is a bit wonkey it will catch as the tyre turns.

There are a lot of really good mechanically minded guys on here who might know a lot more, but thats my stab at it. hope it helps :thumbup

if the bike has a pattern brake lever throw it in the bin as this is what they are known for, other than that make sure the pistons are working freely, pads and discs are good and head/wheel bearings are good, my money is on the lever:thumbup

Thanks for the input guys,

Looks like some spanner time is required this weekend!
I hope it's the leaver...

for seals speak to wemoto. they are good value and will know/ find out exactly what you need.

happened to me on my SP1 not long ago so i changed to EBC double sintered and hasn't happened since hope this helps?
