Front axle nut

Right lads

I have left the fork pinch bolts done up to stop the axle moving, but when I tried to take off the axle nut it's stuck tight - and I mean tight enough that a small bar with me standing on it hasn't had an effect. Now I'm not exactly a big lad but, question is, will I hurt anything just swinging on it a bit harder? Should I use some sort of penetrating oil and, if so, what precautions should I take?

Thanks

Dave

Have you had it off before? Where are you based? Sounds like ots wither seized or someones done it up to tight or its cross threaded.

Thanks guys

Mark - yes a bit far for most to pop round for a look! This is the first time that I've tried to get it off, and have just finished the replacement job - lots of penetrating lubricant and then belted the bar with a mallet a few times. All fine and not cross threaded at all. A nice new titanium nut (complete with copper grease to make the job easier next time) fitted ready for the new Oz wheels once I get some tires on.

Cheers

Dave

Yup that is a bit to far lol

Ahh good stuff!

Make sure you torque it back up right :thumbup

My rear one was Jamed on tight ..lots of swearing couldn't shift it...even left the wd40 to work for a few days..rounded of the nut so was stuck...ended up taking an angle grinder to it and buying a new spindle and nut..

Hi Mark

I was always going to replace the nut as it looked rusty and ***** - a good thing as it was pretty marked up and slightly rounded by the time I had finished. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as yours, though. Trying to find replacement parts down under is a nightmare at the best of times.

yeah lots of my bolts have taken a hit living outside so I may well invest but probably not Ti

And loosen off the pinch bolts then torque them back up correctly especially if ohlins as i have seen a few threads where they have cracked the fork leg due to overtightening
