Frame Number Ageing

B

Beanie

Is there a way to know what the bikes real birthdays are by the frame numbers?

eg 000001-145321 is 1999 145322-7777777 is 2000

Reason i ask is i need to order some stuff, and although my logbook says 2000, i just want to make sure:dowhat

sorry i know this is sad but i can date your frame number for you, its quite simple

let me give you an example of how a frame number works

frame number ZD4RR00004s111111

ZD4 is the europeaon manufacturers code for Aprilia

RR0 is the model code (RR0 is an 04 onwards rsv, RP0 is an 98-03 mille, RPB is a Tuono)

000 is the area used to denote special model codes paintwork etc (010 is an edwards if i rememeber right)

4 is the year of manufacture (4=2004, 3=2003, 2=2002, 1=2001, Y=2000, X=1999, w=1998) see how it works???

s means it was made in the Scorze plant just outside noale northern italy

the last six digits are the unique number for youre bike!

check the 10th digit that dates you bike!

hope it helps!

:thumbup

Thanks for that Griff, i learn something from you everytime you post :thumbup

Hoping you had a first class New Years bud. :eatcorn

Cheers, Aus :biggrin

Somebody wanna Sticky that info? might be usefull!

Griffer you still popping over for a brew when you're down this way? I figured if you touch my Mille it might be worth more!

Fusebox

I must be sad, coz I found that Quite Interesting... Tried it on my 99 RSV streetfighter. Comes out as a 98 (no surprise there), but instead of RP0 as expected, I have ME0. Am I riding an RS250? Also tried it on my 2 other bikes, both came out year before UK reg - I think Aprilia shipped them the slow way round..

Cheers, thats not sad, thats great, thats the info i was after.

And others think so as well, even if it has made their bikes abit older than the reg, hehe

I have this on mine too (MEO):confused

WHAT DOES THIS STAND FOR?

NOT IMPORT I HOPE

just checked mine aswell, meo written on mine.

wonder weather its a uk thing????
we all cant have imports????well i hope not anyway.

pat.

They are all imports guys, they only make them in Italy!! :thumbup

I was sure mine was an European model as the guy I bought it from said it was a German import. :dunno

Turns out it was first registered in the UK in 2001. :doug

Dunno if it helps but there are 3 types of import:

Normal import is where the bike is made in its home country ready for export to its offiicial home market, eg, built in japan but exported to uk for uk use.

Grey import is a bike entering into a country where the market doesn't officially recognise it, eg zxr250 or fzr250 or cbr750 etc. mostly, these bikes would have been japanese home market bikes, and would be imported either privatly or by 3rd party company.

Parallel import is where the bike is available in the uk as standard, but you can import it from say germany or france for cheaper, and things like headlight aim is set for the wrong side, speedo is in kph etc.

Hope this helps

Mine ses MEO as well. Does anyone really know? My log book reads 'Africa mille' don't know the relevance of telling you all this but it makes me want to know where my bike comes from exactly.

sorry guys please dont worry were all riding imports in a fashion! they were all made in italy! but bike that wernt destined for this country are imports!

grey inmports bike models of bikes that wernt meant to come to this country, eg some of the scarabeo range scooters, fzr250 is agood one!

right allow me to ellaborate on the digits 4,5,6 inb the frame number, this is where some guys seem to be getting a little lost , im very sorry guys i didnt realise i was going to creat an issue with this!
With milles the frame digits ME0 denotes a mille from 98 -2001, 2001 onwards is RP0 (big valve head, different seat unit etc etc!)

but the 10 th digit dates your bike!

heres a good one , you guys that have got a 04 model with the haga and edwards badge on the tank, check your frame number ,it will read ZD4RR00003S****** , it will tell you that the bikes an 03 not an 04 as they only did that paintwork from august 03 to december 04...mad or what!
sorry for any confusion!
Griff

Hi

One more question. Is the frame number year the Model Year, or the actual year it was made? I can't believe they actually change models on 31st December.

youre prbably right fella thet didnt change the model specifications at 31 december every year etc etc but thet did stamp the frame numbers 3 for 2003 and 4 fr 2004 etcetc! cos thats the law.

but it does make dating your bike accurate to the year without question, bodywork, well thats a different matter!

hope this helps
Griff

According to my engine number the bikes a 350 YPVS??!! Only joking. Thanks for clearing that one up, although i still can't find the power valve servo i'm looking at in the aprilia service manual contents, and when did Stan Stephens make pipes for a V-twin.

Fusebox - perhaps another anomaly that you can explain? My VIN ZD4RPA0001S****** - so it’s a 2001 – but dosent have the big valve head etc??? What does RPA mean?

Cheers

Paul

Yes indeed we are interested about the meaning of the mystical RPA ???
