Found a leak on a repaired Fuel Tank - Will an 02 model fit a 99?

Hello all..

After looking for a fuel smell, i have found my tanks bracket (not the hinge side) has been welded up, and seen fuel spilling from that very top.

I have just found a very cheap tank @ £60 on ebay, I had to do a quick look to see if it would fit and promptly purchased.. I found another tank for sale saying 99-03

so i was wondering if that is true.. Will an 2002 tank fit a 1999?

I'm sure someone will know..

Many Thanks

would i need to match the subframe and all plastic sides to match.. i was thinking about doing that at some point..

if it fits without all the sides on, that's good enough to get the original one repaired properly. Thanks Kiwi_rsvr

You will need the side panels from the 2002 bike as well, the 2002 tank isnt designed to work with the original full length side panels of your model.

Thats the side panels ordered..

Does anyone know for sure if i need the subframe to go with it?

Thanks everyone.

Depends how "proper" you want it done for now.
Easy way to do it, I did it so make your own mind up :p, take out the bolt on the tank-to-subframe hinge. Fit tank then bolt the hinge to the subframe. Otherwise you'll need a newer subframe. That is unless you wanna modify the bolt holes on the tank-to-subframe hinge....

Thank you Estranged, i have purchased the subframe from the same job lot.
