hi folks
i wanna shed some light on wether i would be really able to determine wether ohlins front and rears is really that much different than the standard sussies ,im getting a bit fixated on better suspenders and would like someone to tell me to get a grip and spend elsewhere ....lol :devious is there really a diff [apart from lookin shithot and a bit more adjustability ]:dunno:biggrin

might be just as good taking your bike to MCT or someone to let them put new springs and valves and make the current ones feel like magic? I feel that too often people chuck ohlins at a bike and expect it to then perform some sort of trick!! Even ohlins need to be set up properly and serviced regularly.

MCT HERE, I'm sure someone will come and mention another of the companies as there are a couple around the country that do a similar job and are as good, I just know these as they are closest to me and round here everyone uses them, be aware they do tend to have a long waiting list!!

Also I'm sure if you take your bike to someone like this they'll be the best ones to tell you what way to go to get the best suspension on your budget.....

Go for the ohlins rear shock and get your forks serviced with new springs, the sachs shocks are absolute *****, I had so many problems with mine, it is possible to get a better setup out of them but if its already knackered your best off upgrading it, the forks on the other hand are fine, just get springs to suit your weight etc and there golden (on the inside) :p

Depends what your purpose is. If its to go down the pub to show off then why? But if you intend to do track riding often then yes.

+1 for what V Senna said.

Ohlins shock a good buy.

Ohlins oem forks not so much, probably no better at all than Showa.

I have to say, I have had both in my time.
A set of normal forks set to the way you ride (weight style i.e. valves & springs and oil weight and air gap all done") will make the bike handle 100% better than stock and not cost too much.

But with Ohlin's you get that little bit more refinement on what to change allowing you to set the bike up exactly for you and have a few settings for diff things.

if you ask which one was better, I would say Ohlin's but then that's just my preference.

I don't think its worth paying for a new set of forks just to get the extra little refinement. If you get your standard forks done by someone who knows what they are doing you would see an improvement; another place to get your forks done is K-Tec as they really know how to make standard forks work for you.

cheers for the heads up fella's i think im gonna go down the road of gold rear and some front end setup/work from either ktec or mct ....i quite like my front end at the mo as ive just dropped the forks a notch and kin ell it drops in quick .....[4lines showing]

That's sound thinking Butch - gave my new gold rear one a good workout on Sat (what happened to you BTW?) and it's superb. Ridden Griff's with Ohlin forks and honestly prefered my Showas - think he did as well!

had some drama's mate ...anyway yep i think power comd from griffster first and then sussies sorted .....big arguement about cash and then some panel resprays ....mit der carbon hehehehehehe

riiiiiiiight

:devious right you lot who's got a rear ohlins for a small fee :biggrin ya never know i might let ya come an play with the stuff that goes bang if yr good to the ole butchos:devious

my personal opinon i noticed a difference when i went from my showas to ohlins
again when i went from the standard shock to the factory race shock i got on now

I test rode both the rsvr and a factory when they were released in 04. Riding both back to back you could notice a big difference. The ohlins suspended factory was soooooo much nicer.

However the standard one felt great when I rode that on it's own. The ohlins units do offer more adjustment and every click makes a difference. Do you need all that adjustment on the road:dunno.

I had my R1 forks done at K-tec and they were fantastic. New internals are all you need, the shiny gold tubes don't make any diference it's what's inside that count.

If this lad dont want my bike as it is I will have a rear shock. It needs a service which Colin at 100% suspension will do and is fitted with a 110 rear spring. SVS is £100. You can have it for £200 as it is.
Hey presto, good as new shock for £500 cheaper than buying a new one.

cheers fb keep it on the shelf for me bud ...if you can wait for a bit ???she who must be obeyed an all that blah blah ...plus i have to honour griffs deal on the power comd first ,cheers me ole fruitbat:devious

Much as above really, Ohlins rear shock much better than OE shock, and good set up on std forks and you would be hard pressed to notice the difference from Ohlins.
I can highly recommend K-Tech, I had the rear Ohlins and std forks on my track bike re valved and re sprung to suit my weight by them and it made a HUGE difference to the bikes handling on track.:thumbup

mega :doug cheers for all the advice troops im quickish on the road ,,maybe a bit reserved and dont go on the track much if at all ,so carlos fandango sussies just do it for me on the looks side [coz im a vain poser **** ]:devious but ithink the rear will get pampered !!! with a view to getting the rest sorted later .....TRINKETS TRINKETS TRINKETS :inlove LOL my wife really hate her hehehehehehe

i have had the same conversation with myself a few months back

picked up a cheap ohlins rear that needed the spring re-powder coating and the hydraulic preload stuff throwing away. it's a subtle change in quality to be honest as i did spend some time cleaning and setting the sachs unit up when i first had the bike, so it was not a night and day difference for me.

as for the forks, i rebuilt them myself and adjusted the air gap so i get almost full travel. still needs new springs to suit my weight, but i have researched it and found that honda blackbird springs are the perfect size and rate for me so i'm keeping a close eye on eBay to get a pair.

i'm waiting for a scabby set of forks i bought to arrive so i can strip the valves out and experiment with the valving to sort out the harsh compression damping and stiffen up the rebound circuit.

long winter nights are coming, so i do need something to do :biggrin
