fork removal tips?

P

pieman

got an abba stand and haynes on the way just in case! Pretty sure i have relevant tools. The forks are coming out. Anybody got any useful tips that might help reduce the amount of hours i spend on the job?
I'm thinking useful tools i might not have or things to remember to make it easier to reassemble or remove them or even that might not be in the manuals, stuff i can do to help prevent future problems in this area of the bike. Parts of the bike i should clean/ maintain whilst the forks are off? I'm pretty sure it's quite a straight forward job and i'm up to the task but all the best disasters start out that way if you're not prepared!

why you taking them off?..just the forks or yokes and stems as well?

see my previous fork seal threads. I had a strange braking sensation the other day and when i stopped to look there was fork oil over the disc and tyre so they are gonna be sent for rechroming. 300 quid for better than new forks sounds much better than 300 for a pair off ebay that are 'probably straight'!
