is this correct... iv read you can do this with cars that have catalysts when its flooded... as when held @ full throttle... the EFI is preset not to allow fuel in... so clears the excess fuel till it finally starts !!

spoke to Southern Cross guys... & the guy said this works on a 2002 RSV... it has no catalyst... but he said its fine... takes a while too clear it through... will cough & splutter... but when it does start... "release the throttle so it doesnt rev its tits off" !?

what do you guys think ??

Ive had to do it a couple of times in 2 years. Scary but it works. Just make sure to release the throttle once it fires.Id say 10second bursts, but it should fire by the second burst if not on the first.

Hi Sabre... did you do this on the mille... or a car !?

just want too check before trying it when/if it happens again !?

iv just tried it... GP Can flooded the bike for a 2nd time... could'nt be bothered doing the plugs again... stuck standard can back on & left the bike 3hrs... tried to start it again... no go !!

so took the plunge... ignition on... no choke... twisted throttle fully opened with right hand... pressed start button with left hand & kept it pressed in... after 3 looong secs... BOOM... started up... so quickly released throttle back to 2000rpms... after 10secs... started idling perfectly !!

just tried 'normal' starting again after 30mins... starts perfectly again !!

hopefully this means no more plug drying... definately not fitting GP can again until its had a tune up !!

As you can see, it does work but I wouldn't want to subject the sprag to that technique too often. Your bike obviously needs setting up if it keeps flooding so I would get that done ASAP.

I would advise that you get the initial issue sorted out before you end up having a close encounter with your local Aprilia parts department!!

This kind of starting is OK one or twice but prolonged exposure to the kind of stress you're putting your sprag assembly under will inevitably end in disaster for your bike and the wallet.

The bike should start first punch of the button with full choke when cold or without or partial choke when warm, if it doesn't then it's not set up right.

the boys are right mate , sommat not right there fella.......have you changed the plugs recently???

not cool submittin the bike to those kinda starts constantly .....and a GP pipe shouldnt cause that issue for sure!

let me know if i can help hombre!
Cheers

I had the problem with a weak battery and did the fooking plugs twice... After second time she started up like described with a bang and a good battery...

I was rather annoyed to put it nicely.

It was on the Mille. But like everyone else has said. You SHOULDNT have to do this. Something else needs attention. :pirate
