last MOT in April I got an advisory of too much slack in the floating disc buttons on my 06 Big T....Ive rode the rest of the year with no probs, breaks are superb as usual, Ive been told you can tighten the buttons as discs are Ok, so how do I do it? Can you buy new buttons? I really don't want to purchase new discs.. cheers amigos.

Good question mucker, it'll be interesting to see the replies.

Thinking about it it might be possible to tap a carrot into the center of the button and expand it a little but that seems a bit Heath Robinson.

If yer can access a press with a finely calibrated pressure gauge you might be able to press the buttons in enough to reduce the movement.

All sounds a bit iffy though.

they gave an advisory because floating discs actually move!! bell ends!!

i run standard discs but fully floating, never had a problem with mot and mine rattle like mad.

You can get the buttons replaced.... "but" it depends on why you have play in them. Mine moved due to wear in the carrier - the holes that the buttons sit in were oval instead of round.
Fairly common..... apparantly...

:(

As felix has said, they are floaters....they are meant to have some free play.
In fact, one of the BIG problems with these brakes is when they DON'T float i.e. bobbins seized up.

How loose are they?
There's usually 2-4mm of play in most.
