Here is the old **** with the flat bars on.........

I've had the bike over two years now and done about 7k on it (not much I know)

Wouldn't change it for anything.....what a great bike

Body work is off at the mo for a funky carbon and tricolore paint job.

Sorry mate, was on it when I bought it.

Funnily enough it's just about to be changed in favour of a Tricolore one.

Hi Monk,

I love your conversion, I am just starting on the same project albeit I have a 2002 bike that is quite a sorted track bike but I now want to make it rd legal and put flat bars on.
What bars ( size or even part number ) and risers / fitting did you buy or make ? What problems did you encounter ?

Cheers

Nick

Here's my how to for high bar conversion, I used Renthal fatbars which are a direct replacement for Tuono ones, got them from B&C express

Thanks nikfubar.
Couple of questions if I may....... How tight are other cables ? Did you just re route or are they ok...? Have you thought what else might be used as stopper lugs ? I don't have a spare R6 lying around to rob from..!
Any other thoughts or tips to make this a less painful process than I'm imagining ?

Hi
All the electrical cables re-route fine & the throttle cables just need re-routing on the RH side of the head stock as photo. I used Tuono bars but if you use flat bars you will proberbly have more slack on the cables than I did. I had the old hanger lying around, you may have to buy one to butcher for the lock stops, here's one for a tenner http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-R6...36?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f20868b44
Don't be daunted by this conversion, it's very easy once you get into it, to do. One of the hardest things I found was actually supporting the bike as I took this oppertunity to change the head stock bearings to taper ones, you will proberbly find yours are knackered aswell. Usually the bottom ones go first.

Hi Nik,

Thanks for these words, I will tackle this and I hope it's easier than I'm thinking ! I will no doubt end up doing a variety of other jobs whilst I'm about it.
The bike is an 02 on an 03 plate one previous owner with 7000 miles on clock, looking at history he serviced taxed and mot d the bike religiously, low sided it got scared and sold it #makesmehappy

Hi Nick

Bars are standard Renthall drag bars on 50mm risers (no lower cos won't clear fork tops)
Did have higher bars origionaly so have longer brake lines, probably still need slightly longer with drag bars.
Standard throttle cables are fine but clutch line a bit tight, could do with an extra 50mm or so.
Lock is a bit restricted, quite a faff to get bars and levers in optimum position but fine now (although probably mot failure due to lack of lock)
All in all a cracking conversion that makes the bike the ultimate 'sports tourer' !
I have ridden this bike to France and Spain, covered 2500 miles in 10 days and it was brilliant !
I have done track days and popped up the shop for some ****.......a true all rounder.

Cheers, Nick
