Fitting HT Leads into Coil Packs

Hey guys,

I have just purchased a new set of HT Leads from Magnecor for my '02 RSV. Gone to fit them this morning and have found that there are no connectors on the coil end of the leads. When removing the originals it appeared that they had no brass connectors which hold them in the coil packs, they were quite hard to pull out of the coils. Does anyone know whether the originals are fitted with brass/steel ends (if so have they come off the ends of the old leads and are still in coils) or is it just the width of the leads that hold them in place.

The Magnecor leads don't have any sort of connector on the coil end of the leads and appear to just use the rubber boots to hold them in place, because the boots are a tight fit on the leads it makes it impossible to tell whether they are making contact with the coils. Unsurprisingly after changing the leads the bike is now refusing to start.

I have emailed Magnecor asking whether the leads should have come with brass coil connectors so will have to wait for a reply from them tomorrow. As with most things they always seem to go wrong at the most inappropriate time (MOT is booked for next Saturday so need to get it running by then)

Any feedback would be helpful :confused :confused

some leads screw into the coil, not sure if thats the case with the rsv though...

Thanks for the replies lads, the md of Magnecor (who supplied the leads) is going to give me a call in the morning but I will have a look at the coils in the morning to see if they are threaded.

Well, got the one of the coil packs off this morning and they are indeed threaded, the screws appear to be the self tapping type. I have tried to screw one of the spare leads onto the coil but am having no joy. Any idea's ??

Are the leads too fat ?, you should just wind the lead into the coil then slip the little weather shield over coil.

try some wd40 on the end of the lead that you screw in as there a tight fit , use some grips too turn the lead as well , then slide the shroud over when finished

All sorted :thumbup :thumbup , fitted them back on the bike today and fired up straight away :biggrin
